After a disappointing IPL 2025, Super Kings’ fans finally have something to be happy about! Thanks to an impressive run in the recent IPL season, CSK’s Ayush Mhatre has been named the captain of the India U-19 Team for their tour of England, starting June 24. Abhigyan Kundu takes on the role of vice-captain. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who recently impressed in the IPL, also joins the squad.
Selected mid-season, Mhatre showed great form for the trembling CSK team. Playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he was a rare bright spot in their tough season. He scored 206 runs in just six matches, hitting the ball at an impressive strike rate of almost 188. His strong IPL performance clearly caught the selectors’ attention, making him a great choice to captain the youth side.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi also made it to the India U-19 Team after a remarkable IPL debut with Rajasthan Royals (RR). He amazed fans and experts by smashing a century off only 35 balls against Gujarat Titans. Suryavanshi finished his first IPL season with 252 runs in seven matches, including a half-century in his final game, boasting an incredible strike rate of 206.55. He now brings his explosive batting to the international youth stage.
Under Ayush Mhatre India Captain Lead, U19 Team Set to Play in ODIs and Multi-day Formats
The India U-19 Team will play a warm-up match, followed by five fifty-over games in the Youth One-Day Series, and two multi-day matches. Vice-captain Abhigyan Kundu has good experience, having played for Mumbai in age-group cricket and for the India U19s in unofficial Tests and ODIs last year.
The ODIs will happen in Hove (June 27), Northampton, and Worcester. After these, the teams will play multi-day matches in Beckenham (July 12-15) and Chelmsford (July 20-23). This tour promises exciting cricket and a look at India’s future stars.
