Devon Conway Puts New Zealand in Strong Position but Equals an Unwanted Record

India’s batting performance was a major disappointment in the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru. They were bowled out for a paltry 46 runs in their first innings, their lowest-ever Test score at home. This was a significant blow to their hopes of winning the match. New Zealand, on the other hand, batted solidly and built a strong lead. Devon Conway, the Black Caps’ opener, played a crucial knock of 91 runs, which helped his team reach a total of 180/3 at the end of the day.

India’s batting collapse started early, with captain Rohit Sharma being dismissed for just two runs. Virat Kohli and other Indian batsmen also failed to make a significant contribution, and the team was all out for 46 runs in just over 31 overs.

New Zealand’s bowlers, Tim Southee, Matt Henry, and Will O’Rourke, were in excellent form and exploited the Indian batting weaknesses to great effect. Their disciplined bowling and accurate line and length made it difficult for the Indian batsmen to score runs.

Despite India’s poor batting performance, New Zealand’s openers, Devon Conway and Tom Latham, started strongly and laid a solid foundation for their team’s innings. Conway’s 91 runs was a valuable contribution, and his innings helped New Zealand gain a significant lead over India.

Devon Conway equals McCullum in unwanted club with 91 in Bengaluru Test

CSK batter Devon Conway’s unlucky streak in the 90s continued as the batter fell just short of a century in the first Test against India at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Conway scored 91 off 105 balls, hitting 11 fours and three sixes, before being dismissed.

This marks his third Test score in the 90s, placing him alongside Tom Blundell, Jeremy Coney, Brendon McCullum, John Reid, Mark Richardson, and Ross Taylor. New Zealand’s record for the most scores in the 90s is held by Stephen Fleming, with six. Conway’s previous 90s came against South Africa and Pakistan in 2022.

Moreover, India’s bowlers, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, managed to take a few wickets, but the damage had already been done. New Zealand’s batsmen, Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell, will start at the crease on day two and will be looking to press home their advantage.

Overall, it was a disappointing day for India, and they will need to improve their batting significantly in the second innings if they want to have any chance of winning the match. New Zealand, on the other hand, are in a strong position and will be confident of securing a victory.
