The Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced a change in the IPL 2026 schedule, with fixtures between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans being swapped due to logistical reasons. The revision comes in light of municipal corporation elections scheduled in Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat on April 26.
As per the updated schedule, the afternoon fixture originally set to be played in Ahmedabad on April 26 will now take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The match will begin at 3:30 PM IST, giving CSK a home advantage in what was initially planned as an away game.
Revised venues for CSK vs GT clashes
The reverse fixture has also been adjusted accordingly. The match that was scheduled to be played in Chennai on May 21 will now be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This game will be played as an evening fixture, starting at 7:30 PM IST.
The decision ensures that the league continues smoothly without clashing with local election schedules. Such changes are not uncommon in a tournament of this scale, where logistical challenges often require adjustments to the calendar.
For both teams, the swap changes the dynamics slightly. Chennai Super Kings will now get an extra home game early in the tournament, while Gujarat Titans will host the return fixture later in the season.
What lies ahead for CSK
For CSK, this schedule tweak comes at a crucial point in their campaign. The team has managed just one win in four games so far, and consistency remains a concern.
Their season began on a poor note, with three consecutive losses against Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Those defeats exposed gaps in both their batting and bowling units, putting them under early pressure.
However, their thumping win against Delhi Capitals at home has given them a much-needed boost. That victory not only brought their first points of the season but also helped restore some confidence within the squad.
Now, the revised schedule could work in CSK’s favour. Getting an additional home fixture at Chepauk, especially at this stage, could play a key role in shaping their season. The familiar conditions and crowd support have always been a strong advantage for them.
Looking ahead, CSK are set to play Kolkata Knight Riders at home next, followed by two away games, before returning to Chennai for the rescheduled clash against Gujarat Titans on April 26.
This phase of the tournament will be decisive. If CSK can build on their recent win and capitalize on home conditions, they can quickly turn their campaign around and get back into contention.
