It’s double delight for Joburg Super Kings, as Dian Forrester and Prenelan Subrayen have been named in South Africa’s T20I squad for the upcoming tour of New Zealand. The call-ups are a reward not just for consistent domestic performances, but also for their strong showing in the recently concluded SA20 season.
Dian Forrester Receives Maiden T20I Call-Up
Forrester’s selection marks a major milestone in his career. Despite several established names in the JSK lineup, he carved out a regular spot for himself and justified the faith shown by the management.
He finished the SA20 campaign with 175 runs in eight innings, averaging an impressive 58 at a strike rate of 165. Those numbers only tell part of the story. Forrester often walked in when JSK were under pressure and managed to shift momentum with calculated aggression.
His standout knock came against MI Cape Town, where he smashed 80 off 42 balls, striking four boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate touching 191. It was an innings that underlined his ability to dominate quality bowling attacks.
Proteas head coach Shukri Conrad acknowledged his growth, saying: “Dian has done particularly well. He’s been part of our high-performance programme and carried that form into the SA20, where he really impressed.”
Subrayen T20I Call-Up
Off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen also finds himself on the brink of a T20I debut. In his first season with JSK, Subrayen brought control and calm to the bowling unit.
He picked up six wickets in five innings while maintaining a tidy economy rate of 7.8, often bowling in the powerplay where margins are slim. His ability to slow the game down and force errors did not go unnoticed.
At 32, Subrayen has already represented South Africa in Tests and ODIs. Now, under the leadership of Keshav Maharaj, he has an opportunity to add a T20I cap to his resume.
What Lies Ahead in New Zealand
South Africa’s tour of New Zealand will feature a three-match T20I series scheduled for March 18, 20, and 23. Alongside Forrester and Subrayen, uncapped players such as Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Kwena Maphaka have also been included, signaling a fresh look to the squad.
For Joburg Super Kings, the selections are validation of their system and scouting. For Forrester and Subrayen, it is the beginning of a new chapter — one that could redefine their careers on the international stage.
