Matthew De Villiers’ 133 Drives Warriors to Big Win Over Boland

Warriors captain Matthew de Villiers produced a remarkable batting display, scoring a career-best 133 to lead his side to a commanding 87-run victory with a bonus point against Goldrush Boland in their One-Day Cup encounter at Boland Park in Paarl on Saturday.

The knock marked his second List A century and laid the foundation for one of the most dominant team performances of the season as the Warriors surged to a record-breaking total.

Matthew de Villiers Scores Highest List A Score

De Villiers’ 133 came off just 77 balls and combined control with calculated aggression. He struck 17 fours and five sixes, reaching his hundred at a strike rate above 170. Once set, he dictated terms, taking on pace and spin with equal assurance.

His ability to accelerate through the middle overs ensured the momentum never dipped. As captain, he shaped the innings and kept the scoring rate climbing, putting Boland’s attack under sustained pressure.

Record Partnership and Historic Total

He found strong support in Modiri Litheko, who struck 117 off 115 balls to register his maiden List A century. The pair combined for a 158-run stand for the second wicket, a partnership that shifted the game decisively in the Warriors’ favour.

Their acceleration through the middle overs ensured Boland never regained control. Warriors went on to post 400 for five, the highest List A total at Boland Park, with 65 runs coming in the final five overs to cap a relentless batting effort.

Boland Fightback and Final Result

Chasing 401, Boland responded through Blayde Capell and Gavin Kaplan, who shared a 130-run stand to keep hopes alive. Capell struck 94 off 89 balls and Kaplan made 88 off 83, but the required rate continued to rise.

Once key wickets fell, the chase lost direction. Boland were bowled out for 313, handing the Warriors an 87-run win with 31 balls remaining and a valuable bonus point. The result keeps the Warriors unbeaten and highlights de Villiers’ growing influence as both a leader and match-winner.
