Indian cricket star Ravindra Jadeja has made history! He’s now the first-ever cricketer to score over 2,000 runs and take over 100 wickets in the important ICC World Test Championship (WTC). This is a truly special achievement for an all-rounder.

Jadeja reached this big milestone during the ongoing second Test match against England at Edgbaston. He played a fantastic innings, scoring 89 runs. He only needed 79 runs to reach 2,000 runs in the WTC, and he did it beautifully, especially when India was in a tricky spot at 211 runs for 5 wickets.

Looking closely at his performance in the WTC, Jadeja has played 41 matches. In these games, he has scored a total of 2,010 runs. His batting average is a very respectable 37.92. What’s more, he has hit three centuries (scores of 100 or more) and thirteen half-centuries (scores of 50 or more).

But Jadeja isn’t just a great batsman. With the ball, he has taken an impressive 132 wickets! His bowling average is also very good, at just over 25 runs per wicket. This includes six times where he took five wickets in an innings, and six times where he took four wickets in an innings. These numbers truly show how valuable he is as an all-rounder in Test cricket.

A Strong Partnership and a Special Connection with Edgbaston

In the current match, Jadeja formed a vital 203-run partnership with captain Shubman Gill, who scored a massive 269. This stand was instrumental in helping India post a commanding total of 587/10. Though Jadeja missed out on a well-deserved fifth Test century, falling for 89, his contribution was pivotal.

Interestingly, this is Jadeja’s second double-century partnership at Edgbaston. In 2022, he shared a 222-run stand with Rishabh Pant, where both batsmen hit centuries. No other Indian pair has recorded two 200-plus partnerships at this venue in Tests.

Playing his 82nd Test, Jadeja’s knock of 89 runs pushed his overall Test run tally to 3,495 at an average of 35.30, with four centuries. With his left-arm spin, he has also claimed 324 Test wickets at an average of just over 24, including 15 five-wicket hauls.

Against England specifically, Jadeja boasts an excellent record. This innings took his Test runs against England to 1,156, including two centuries. Notably, England is the only country against which he has scored over 1,000 Test runs. He also has 71 wickets against England. His ability to perform strongly with both bat and ball against a top Test nation further solidifies his status.

This achievement underlines Ravindra Jadeja’s consistent impact and his unique place in Test cricket history.
