Ruturaj Gaikwad to join Yorkshire for County Championship, One-Day Cup

Indian cricketer and CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is set to play for Yorkshire County Cricket Club in England for the rest of the 2025 season. He will take part in five County Championship matches starting in July and also play in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup. This is a big step in Gaikwad’s career as he prepares to face the challenges of English domestic cricket.

Gaikwad, who is 28 years old, is currently the captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League. He has played six One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 23 T20 matches for India. He has a good record in first-class cricket, with an average of 41.77 and seven centuries. In List A cricket (50-over matches), he is even better, with an average of 56.15 and 16 hundreds. Right now, he is touring England with the India A team, getting ready for this new opportunity.

“I’m excited to join Yorkshire”: Ruturaj Gaikwad on His County Championship Inclusion

Speaking about the move, Gaikwad said, “I’m excited to join Yorkshire for the rest of the season. Playing cricket in England has always been one of my dreams. Yorkshire is the biggest and one of the most respected clubs in the country. I know it’s an important part of the season, and I want to perform well. The County Championship is very competitive, and the One-Day Cup is a good chance to win a trophy.”

Yorkshire’s head coach Anthony McGrath welcomed Gaikwad, saying, “We’re very happy to have Ruturaj with us. He’s a classy player with a strong all-round game. He can give our batting more strength and score runs quickly when needed. He’s an exciting talent who’s respected in the cricket world.”

Gavin Hamilton, Yorkshire’s general manager of cricket, also shared his thoughts. “Ruturaj has done well in all formats of the game. He’s a flexible and smart cricketer who will help our team a lot. We’re looking forward to having him join us in July.”

Gaikwad has been out of action since early April due to an elbow injury he suffered during the IPL. Playing in England will not only help him get back to top form but also give him valuable experience in tough conditions. His signing is a big boost for Yorkshire as they aim for strong results in both competitions this season.
