The most anticipated tournament, that marks the start of franchise cricket for the Super Kings in 2024 is finally here. Yes we are talking about SA20 which is finally underway and Joburg Super Kings will be in action on a regular basis, feeding the basic needs of every Super Kings fan.
In this article, we will follow the journey of the SA 20 side and record the match results of every Joburg Super Kings.
Match 1: Sunrisers Eastern Cape vs Joburg Super Kings match result
The first match of the tournament and the one between two fierce rivals in the first season of the SA20 sadly couldn’t take place. Due to heavy rain in the St George’s Park, Greberha. It is the home ground of the Sunrisers team, who are also the defending champions of the tournament.
The game was abandoned without even the toss taking place.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape were definitely looking for a good match to start their season. However, JSK was looking forward more for a rematch, and perhaps to avenge their defeat from the last season of SA20.
These two teams met in the semi-final of the SA20, in the last season. Earlier in the season, JSK had had the upper hand on their opponent. They had defeated them in both the occasions. However, this time, things didn’t go according to plan. Courtesy to an amazing century by skipper Aiden Markram. It was his centurion inning that helped his team to a total beyond the 200 run mark.
Joburg came strong into the inning, they had a flying start and would have won the game, had there been some better finishing. They were miserable through the middle phases of the game. The spart from the stark, fizzled out and as a result, they ended up losing by 14 runs only.
Match 2: MI Cape Town vs Joberg Super Kings
Things have taken a turn for the worse for Joburg Super Kings. As if losing the technical first game of the season was not bad enough, they lost the match by a hefty margin of 98 runs. And to made matter worse, it was a derby defeat as well, in which they lost to MI Cape Town.
Everyone knows that the matches between Super Kings and MI sides are a sight to behold. Botht he teams have a strong hold on the cricket field as they have the best lineups on either side. Hence, when these kind of matches come along, players and teams don’t want to relent.
Such matches are mostly very competitive. However, this game was an exception where JSK clearly forgot to turn up. Bowling first they were smoked in all parts of the ground by Rassie van der Dussen and Rickleton. The former scored a century, while the latter was dismissed for 98. As a result, MI Capetown posted a total of 243 runs.
In return, JSK couldn’t muster any fight back and ended up losing the game by 98 runs
