Watch: Former CSK player Faf du Plessis takes one-handed blinder to dismiss Dewald Brevis in SA20 game

Joburg Super Kings (JSK) captain Faf du Plessis is arguably one of the best fielders of the game and once again he proved it after taking an outstanding catch during the match against MI Cape Town (MICT) in the SA20 League 2024 at the Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, on Sunday (January 13).

DU Plessis’s one-handed spectacular catch ended the dangerous looking MICT bater Dewald Brewis’s inning on a score of five runs.

After being sent in to bat first, MICT openers built a solid 200-run partnership and Brewis had the task of ensuring they do not lose the momentum. With mid-on and mid-off up in the circle on the fourth delivery of the 17th over, Brewis tried to play lofted shot against Lizard William down the ground.

While the youngster couldn’t middle the ball, as he gets a top edge over mid-off and du Plessis kept running back from the field, gets his right hand out and takes a stunning catch.

“What a blinder! That is unbelievable! From the King of Joburg,” said the commentator on air.

Cape Town batters had a strong day on Saturday as they ended their innings 243/5 just 11 runs short of Durban Super Giants’ all-time high of 254/4 against the Pretoria Capitals in 2023 season.

Opener Rassie van de Dussen played an outstanding knock of 104 off 50 deliveries, including nine boundaries and six maximums while his opening partner just missed out a well-deserved hundred as he smashed 98 off 49, including 8 sixes and 6 fours.

Chasing a target, JSK bundled on a score of 145 runs in 17.5 overs with only Leus du Plooy (48) and Romario Shepherd (38) showed some fighting spirit in the end. George Linde and Olly Stone picked two wickets each while Beuran Hendricks, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone, and Sam Curran picked one wicket each.

With Saturday’s win, MICT managed to earn their first win of the season by 98 runs. MICT stands second in the points table and JSK moved to fifth place after the defeat.
