Chennai Super Kings (CSK) handed a big opportunity to Urvil Patel by giving him his IPL debut in their match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens. CSK brought in the young wicketkeeper-batter from Gujarat as a replacement for Vansh Bedi, who missed out due to injury. Patel now has the chance to make his mark on the biggest T20 stage.
Born on October 17, 1998, in Mehsana, Gujarat, Urvil Patel bats right-handed and keeps wickets. Standing 5 feet 8 inches tall, he has steadily worked his way up in domestic cricket. He has played for both Baroda and Gujarat and was part of the Gujarat Titans squad in IPL 2023, although he didn’t get a game that season.
Patel started his T20 career in January 2018, when he debuted for Baroda in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In February that same year, he made his List A debut in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He continued to develop his game and made his first-class debut during the 2023–24 Ranji Trophy season, proving his skills across formats.
In November 2024, Patel grabbed national attention by smashing the fastest T20 century by an Indian. Playing for Gujarat in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he blasted a 28-ball century against Tripura. He finished unbeaten on 113 off just 35 balls, hammering 12 sixes and 7 fours. His explosive knock helped Gujarat win in dominant fashion.
Now, with his CSK debut underway, Patel has the perfect platform to show what he can do. With talent, form, and opportunity aligning, he will aim to leave a strong impression in IPL 2025.
