Shaik Rasheed made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium on Monday. The 20-year-old right-handed batter from Andhra Pradesh has finally earned his spot in the playing XI after being part of the CSK setup since 2023. Though he had been with the squad for the past two seasons, this is the first time he’s taken the field in an IPL game.
IPL 2025: Who is Shaik Rasheed, Kings’ Debutant in CSK vs LSG?
Young Shaik Rasheed was picked by CSK in the IPL 2025 auction for INR 30 lakh. A promising young talent, he first gained recognition as a member of the victorious India U19 team that won the ICC U19 World Cup in 2022. Since then, he has grown into a key player for Andhra in domestic cricket.
In First-Class cricket, Rasheed has scored 1204 runs in 19 matches at an impressive average of 46.04, showcasing both skill and consistency. In T20s, he has played 17 matches, scoring 352 runs at an average of 29.33 and a strike rate of 127.07. With CSK struggling at the top of the order this season, the team will be looking to Rasheed to bring some much-needed stability and fresh energy to their batting lineup.
CSK Poor Form in IPL 2025: Will the Injured Lions Roar or Remain Soar?
Chennai Super Kings have had a rough start to IPL 2025, losing five matches in a row. After Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out with an elbow injury, MS Dhoni returned as captain. However, even Dhoni’s comeback couldn’t turn things around, as CSK suffered a heavy eight-wicket loss to Kolkata Knight Riders.
Batting first, CSK posted just 103/9, their lowest score at home, and KKR chased it down easily. Openers Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway failed to capitalize in the powerplay, while the middle order once again lacked firepower, highlighting CSK’s ongoing struggles this season.
It will be fun to see if Thala Dhoni can turn the tables for the Yellove army or not!
