MLC 2025, TSK vs SFU Highlights: Super Kings Succumb to a Last Ball Loss, Fall to Chase 149

Another Defeat in the Tournament for TSK as they Failed to Overcome the Mightiest MINY

A thrilling encounter was expected between Texas Super Kings and MI New York as both the powerhouses searched for valuable early-season momentum in Major League Cricket 2026.

Eventually, the match turned out to be a one-sided contest, with MINY convincingly beating TSK by eight wickets through attacking bowling and a composed run chase led by Nicholas Pooran, handing the men in yellow their second consecutive loss in the tournament.

Bowlers, Pooran Seize the Game for MI New York

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, MI New York immediately gained control with Corbin Bosch and Trent Boult striking at regular intervals. TSK struggled to build strong partnerships despite Shubham Ranjane anchoring the innings with 49 from 36 balls, with Milind Kumar supporting with a valuable 39 off 30 deliveries. The men in yellow were about to find the momentum in scoring but Bosch’s outstanding figures of 4/29 and Boult’s 3/18 bundled the batting side out for 158 in 19.2 overs, with valuable contributions from the other bowlers complementing their spells.

Possessing a dangerous batting line-up with many experienced international lads in the unit, the defending champions never allowed the opposition bowlers to find the gap. Monank Patel scored a composed 46 before Nicholas Pooran took complete control of the chase with a brilliant knock of 68 from 46 deliveries. TSK’s bowlers struggled to find the needed breakthroughs as the chasing side crossed the mark in just 17.4 overs, with losing only 2 wickets and sealing a comfortable victory.

Overall, the defending champions produced one of their most complete performances of the season, excelling in every department. The men in yellow showed glimpses of promise, yet frequent loss of wickets and the inability to accelerate with the bat ultimately costed them the game, with their regular captain and key batter Faf du Plessis not playing the match due to injury adding further weakness to the line-up.

TSK’s Middle Order a Big Concern for this Season

Although Texas possess one of the mightiest middle orders on paper, the unit continues to underperform when the innings demands aggression. Donovan Ferreira, Wiaan Mulder and Shubham Ranjane have the experience and power to dominate attacks, but the collective output has not produced the results as per the expectations.

Texas’ middle order batters are playing with a careful approach, yet not accelerating the innings when required. Batters have appeared reluctant to take calculated risks immediately after the powerplay, allowing opposition bowlers to attack further and play with less pressure. Even against MI New York, Ranjane scored a valuable 49, yet the innings lacked the explosive finish needed to post a match-winning total.

Unless Ferreira, Mulder and the rest of the unit consistently shift gears at the right time, TSK may continue with scoring modest totals. Modern T20 cricket rewards fearless intent through the mid overs, and that remains the biggest area requiring improvement if the Super Kings hope to regain the winning momentum and emerge as top title contenders.
