Mumbai’s rising cricketer Ayush Mhatre underwent surgery after suffering a Grade 4 right hamstring injury, putting him on the sidelines for the next two to three months.
This setback has raised concerns over his fitness and recovery, as the young batter is forced to face another long absence from competitive cricket.
Ayush Mhatre Faces Another Injury Layoff
Ayush Mhatre suffered a Grade 4 right hamstring injury during Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy encounter against Chandigarh while running between the wickets. The incident occurred in his first match since recovering from a previous left hamstring injury sustained during the Chennai Super Kings’ IPL clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad months ago.
Following the latest setback, Ayush Mhatre successfully underwent surgery at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai, performed by Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, a prominent orthopedic surgeon of the city. It is expected that the 19-year-old must remain out of action for at least two to three months. His absence has already forced Mumbai to make changes to its batting order, creating an additional challenge for the team during the ongoing domestic season.
Furthermore, Mhatre’s latest injury comes as a major setback for his personal growth, as he faces another lengthy recovery period at a crucial phase of his career. Recurring injuries can interrupt a player’s progress, making consistent performances and regular match practice difficult to maintain.
A Big Blow For CSK Ahead of IPL 2027
Chennai Super Kings could face serious concern ahead of the 2027 IPL season as young batter Ayush Mhatre battles another hamstring injury. His latest setback, a Grade 4 right hamstring injury suffered during Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy match against Chandigarh, is expected to keep him out of cricket for two to three months. Having recently returned to the cricket field after recovering from a left hamstring injury sustained during CSK’s IPL clash against SRH months ago, the youngster now faces another demanding rehabilitation period. The recurrence of such injuries raises questions about his availability and readiness for the upcoming season.
Despite his extraordinary batting skills, maintaining consistent fitness will be essential for Mhatre to establish himself as a dependable option for CSK. Returning from surgery does not automatically guarantee immediate match readiness, as rehabilitation and rebuilding fitness take time. Even if he recovers before the 2027 Indian Premier League, limited preparation could affect his early performances. Therefore, the Super Kings will hope he completes his recovery successfully, regains full fitness and avoids further setbacks. Losing a talented young batter would turn out to be a big blow to the franchise’s plans.
