Ayush Mhatre has become the center of attention as the IPL 2025 auction approaches. With preparations underway for the big event, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has shown interest in this promising young talent from Mumbai. At just 17 years old, Mhatre’s strong performances in First-Class cricket have caught the eye of none other than former CSK captain, MS Dhoni.
Consequently, CSK has invited Mhatre to their High-Performance Centre in Navalur for trials before the IPL auction, which is set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah. This shows CSK’s proactive approach in scouting fresh talent and preparing for the new season.
Mhatre’s rise in domestic cricket has been impressive. He made his First-Class debut for Mumbai during the Irani Cup earlier this season and quickly made a name for himself with solid performances. Over five matches, he scored 321 runs at an average of 35.66. This included one century and one half-century, proving his ability to play crucial innings under pressure and contribute significantly to his team’s scores.
One of the highlights of Mhatre’s young career came during his third First-Class match when he scored a remarkable 176 runs against Maharashtra. This innings stood out not just for the high score but for the maturity and confidence Mhatre displayed at the crease. His ability to play with composure while also showcasing aggressive strokes impressed many, signaling that he could be a future star in Indian cricket.
MS Dhoni’s interest in Mhatre’s progress further emphasizes the young player’s potential. Dhoni, who has been a vital part of CSK’s success, knows the importance of having reliable young talent in the team. The franchise is keen to bring in new players as they plan for the future, and Mhatre fits the bill with his promising skills and performances.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has already reached out to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), requesting permission for Mhatre to attend the trials. This step indicates that CSK is serious about evaluating the young opener and possibly securing him for the upcoming season. If Mhatre impresses during the trials, he could be a valuable addition to CSK’s lineup, adding depth to their batting order and bringing fresh energy to the team.
