CSK’s Urvil Patel Scores Maiden 200 In First Class Cricket

Urvil Patel continued his impressive form in the Ranji Trophy, converting his second century of the season into something special: a maiden double hundred.

The CSK wicketkeeper-batter achieved the milestone against Kerala on home turf, scoring 201 runs off 216 balls to put Gujarat in a commanding position.

The innings came at a difficult time for Gujarat. When Patel walked out to bat, the hosts were struggling at 182/4, and the 2025 Ranji Trophy finalists looked set to take control of the game.

But Patel turned things around, stitching together a crucial 179-run partnership with Jaiswal for the sixth wicket.

He continued to play his natural attacking game, bringing up his fifty off 60 balls. From there, he accelerated, taking the attack to Kerala’s bowlers, particularly Aditya Sarwate. He reached his century in just 97 deliveries.

But the job was only half done.

Following Jaiswal’s unfortunate run-out, Patel remained unfazed. He built another valuable partnership, this time adding 78 runs with debutant Amit Desai for the eighth wicket. The stand helped Gujarat recover from their difficult position and cross the 400-run mark.

From there, Patel took charge and reached his maiden double century off 214 balls.

With this achievement, he became only the second Gujarat wicketkeeper-batter after Parthiv Patel to score a first-class double century. He also surpassed the record for the highest individual score by a Gujarat wicketkeeper-batter.

Patel’s remarkable innings has put Gujarat in a commanding position. But one question remains: can they convert this advantage into an outright victory and secure a place in the knockouts?
