Daryl Mitchell will miss the 2nd season of Major League Cricket (MLC) due to an undisclosed injury. The news has been confirmed through an official statement released by Texas Super Kings’ social media handles.
After making a decent debut for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2024, Mitchell was set to join hands with his international teammates Mitchell Santner and Devon Conway in the USA to play for CSK’s sister franchise TSK. However, the development comes in a big blow for TSK management and fans alike.
Daryl Mitchell was one of the most prominent signings for the men in yellow hoping to clinch the MLC title after falling short in the maiden season. After the signing, the star batter had come forward to talk about what the move meant to him and how excited he was to represent Texas Super Kings in the MLC.
“I’m really excited to be part of the Texas Super Kings and to get to yellove again and be part of the CSK family, I think the cool thing about the MLC following the World Cup being in the West Indies and the America [is] the conditions should be pretty similar and hopefully we continue to adapt to the different conditions and get stuck in,” Mitchell was quoted.
Noor Ahmad Replaces Daryl Mitchell, Set to Join TSK Ahead of MLC Season 2
19-year-old Noor Ahmad comes in as Daryl Mitchell’s replacement for the season. Initially falling short of a bowler, TSK took the opportunity to include an impactful leggie in their squad.
Afghanistan bowler Noor Ahmad despite being so young comes in with some years of experience in franchise cricket, having debuted in 2020 with the St Lucia Zouks in the Caribbean Premier League. Moreover, he joined the Chennai Super Kings as a net bowler for the 2021 Indian Premier League. In February 2022, he was bought by the Gujarat Titans for the 2022 Indian Premier League.
Earlier, TSK signed star all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and Aiden Markrum for the upcoming season. Both Stoinis and Markrum boost the squad with prowess in their respective departments. Stoinis had an extraordinary IPL 2024 season with the bat having scored a century in the match against Chennai Super Kings. On the other hand, Markrum playing for SRH stood for his team whenever needed taking SRH to the final of IPL 2024.
Texas Super Kings will start their MLC 2024 campaign against Los Angeles Knight Riders in the 2nd match of the season at Grand Prairie Stadium, Texas on 6th July. Faf du Plessis-led TSK will aim to clinch their maiden MLC title coming in with a formidable squad and highly experienced team management with Stephen Fleming as the head coach and Albie Morkel as the assistant coach.
