Super Kings Star Donovan Ferreira Earns South Africa Recall for England Tour

JSK and TSK’s star batter Donovan Ferreira has received an international call-up from the South African cricket team. The player is all set to feature in the away series against England.

Ferreira’s last featured T20I game was way back in December 2024. It came against Pakistan at SuperSport Park, Centurion.

The all-rounder didn’t have the best of series, both with the bat and ball in hand. However, after being dropped from the squad, he had performed amazingly across different leagues.

One of the best examples of his power hitting came in a recently concluded game of The Hundred, where he scored 41 runs off just 15 balls. In that particular inning, he scored 3 fours and 4 sixes, batting at a strike rate of 273.

Apart from that, he has been in phenomenal form in other leagues as well. Following the series against Pakistan, Ferreira showcased his style at home in the SA20 league.

Playing for our beloved Joburg Super Kings, he scored 63 runs at a strike rate of 155.24, with a highest score of 51. Furthermore, picking up 8 wickets in 10 games at an outstanding average of 16 and economy of 5.82, he provided balance in the side as a genuine all-rounder. His best of 3/23 highlighted his knack for breaking partnerships in crucial phases.

This dual skill set, both finishing games with the bat and offering economical overs, has made him a standout in the Super Kings ecosystem. It’s this versatility that ultimately pushed selectors to view him as an international-ready talent.

Later this year, playing for the Texas Super Kings, he established himself as a key middle-order batter. In just nine matches, he piled up 248 runs at a superb average of 41.33, ranking among the top scorers of the season.

What stood out was his ability to consistently provide stability while still accelerating when needed, an asset in the shorter American pitches and pressure-filled chases. His reliability in the middle order was crucial to TSK’s playoff run and showcased his temperament for international-level cricket.

Performances like these, in a league filled with global stars, demonstrated that Ferreira could handle high-pressure environments, making his South Africa call-up a natural progression.

He is not alone, though. Apart from Ferreira, the Protean team has also decided to strengthen their middle order with experience in the form of David Miller.

Along with that, Marco Jansen and Lizard Williams have also recovered from their respective injuries and will be a part of the squad. Keshav Maharaj, who shone in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia, is another name, making his return to the T20I side.

T20I squad: Aiden Markram (c), Keshav Maharaj, Lhuan-Dre Pretorius, Corbin Bosch, Kwena Maphaka, Kagiso Rabada, Dewald Brevis, David Miller, Ryan Rickelton, Donovan Ferreira, Senuran Muthusamy, Tristan Stubbs, Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi, Lizaad Williams.
