New Zealand cricketer Daryl Mitchell shared his thoughts after being picked by the Chennai Super Kings for a hefty sum of INR 14 Crore in the 2024 IPL Auction held in Dubai. Mitchell, a right-hand batter, expressed the exhilaration he felt as teams bid for him, especially after previously going unsold in an auction.
During the auction, Mitchell revealed that he was multitasking, wrapping up presents for his daughter Addie’s birthday. The uncertainty of when his turn would come up in the auction kept him occupied, and when it did, he found himself glued to the screen to see the outcome.
The 32-year-old acknowledged that the earnings from the IPL stint would contribute to setting up his family, allowing his two daughters to enjoy the things they love. He emphasized that family is the driving force behind his efforts in cricket.
Mitchell shared the swift communication with Chennai Super Kings after the auction, with the team reaching out promptly. He mentioned interactions with the team manager and head coach Stephen Fleming, expressing gratitude for the opportunity and excitement about joining the team.
Notably, the Chennai Super Kings squad boasts several Kiwi players, including Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, and Mitchell Santner. Mitchell expressed enthusiasm about playing under Fleming, whom he described as a great of the game, both as a player and a coach. Having grown up with fellow player Mitch since the age of 12, Mitchell looks forward to the camaraderie with teammates and the chance to learn from experienced players.
