“I’m a huge MS Dhoni fan”: England World Cup Captain Jos Buttler praises Dhoni’s “Cool Composer” behind the stumps

The ODI World 2023 is in full swing and notably, each team is enjoying their time in the house of cricket, India. With the tournament almost reaching its final leg defending champions England will face Sri Lanka in its next ICC ODI World Cup league match at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday.

Reeling from three defeats in their first four games, England knows they need a huge turnaround if they are to make it to the semi-finals, with the defending champions sat at the bottom of the table following Afghanistan’s shock win over Pakistan on Monday.

England captain Jos Buttler has come under big pressure, particularly for his decision to bowl first in the heat of Mumbai against South Africa – a decision that contributed to a humbling loss for England.

While England are not in the most desired place on the points table, they will hope to make a miraculous comeback to find a spot in the top four.

However, in a recent interview, England captain Jos Buttler keeping the pressures of loss aside expressed praise for former India captain MS Dhoni.

Before their match against Sri Lanka in an interview with Star Sports, England’s Jos Buttler said, ” I am a huge MS Dhoni fan and I really enjoy how he goes about his cricket… Mostly his demeanor in that sort of ice-cool status he presents behind the stumps. So yeah, I think for most wicket-keeper batsmen MS is the best.”

Well, this isn’t the first time Rajasthan Royal’s recruit Jos Buttler has expressed his thoughts on MS Dhoni’s greatness. In the 2021 edition, four out of eight franchises were captained by wicket-keepers, and Buttler felt the credit should go to Dhoni for setting the trend. Buttler believed the legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the inspiration behind the emergence of wicketkeeper-captains in the world’s biggest T20 league, the IPL.

“I am sure MSD (Dhoni) has something to do with the sixth sense and breeding of wicketkeepers who can captain. He obviously has been a fantastic captain and there are lots of players who want to follow his footsteps,” Buttler had told PTI Bhasha in an interview.

Buttler himself a wicketkeeper, feels stumpers enjoy an advantage as captains as they get a 360-degree view of the proceedings.
