Ravindra Jadeja creates history with Test ranking. India’s veteran spin all-rounder, has been the Number One Ranked Test all-rounder for a long while. In fact, he’s been that spot for a record-breaking 1,151 days in a row!
That’s the longest anyone has ever been at the top as the best all-rounder in Test cricket history. Even legendary all-rounders like Jacques Kallis, Kapil Dev, and Imran Khan didn’t manage to stay at number one for that long.
Ravindra Jadeja, the Indian all-rounder, became the top ranked on March 9, 2022. Before that, the West Indies’ Jason Holder was in the top spot.
Since then, Jadeja has just kept getting better and better, holding onto that number one ranking. Right now, he has a rating of 400 points, which shows how far ahead of everyone else he is.

Ravindra Jadeja Test record
Over the last 13 years, ever since he played his first Test match for India in 2012 in Nagpur, Jadeja has been a key player in many of India’s wins. He’s played in 80 Test matches for India and has scored 3,370 runs. What’s really impressive is his batting average of 34.64, which is very good for an all-rounder. He’s even scored four centuries (100 runs in an innings) in Test matches.
But it’s not just his batting that makes him special. With the ball, Jadeja is considered one of the best spin bowlers of our time, right up there with his teammate R Ashwin. He has taken 323 wickets in Test matches, and his bowling average is just 24.14, which is fantastic for a spinner.
He’s also taken five or more wickets in an innings 15 times! His amazing performances didn’t go unnoticed, as he was even part of the ICC Test Team of the Year in 2024, which recognizes the best players in the world.
India Ahead of Upcoming England Test Series
With some of India’s senior players like Rohit Sharma, R Ashwin, and Virat Kohli having retired from Test cricket, Jadeja is now one of the most experienced guys in the team. He’s going to have a really important role to play with both his batting and his bowling when India goes to England to play a series of five Test matches.
This series is happening right after the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) finishes, which is starting up again on May 17th. So, Jadeja will be switching from the fast-paced IPL back to the longer format of Test cricket, and India will be relying on his skills and experience to perform well in England.
