Jay Jani, a huge MS Dhoni fan, has died in a tractor accident. He was famous for running onto the field during the 2024 IPL at Narendra Modi Stadium to touch Dhoni’s feet.
Jay Jani From Viral Fame to Tragedy
According to Gujarat First, Jani was driving his tractor to his farm when it overturned. Jani was from Rabarika village in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. He had 18,000 followers on Instagram and 13,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel, Dhoni Ashiq Official.
The video of him meeting Dhoni went viral, and he became a favourite among Dhoni fans all over. His channel had Dhoni tributes, match reactions and other cricket content. Since his death, many have condoled him online.
Dhoni’s Uncertain IPL Future
Dhoni last played in the 2025 IPL. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained him as an uncapped player for ₹4 crore under the new rules. He took over as captain mid-season when Ruturaj Gaikwad was injured.
But CSK didn’t do well, finishing last with just four wins in 14 matches. Despite the team’s poor performance, Dhoni scored 196 runs in 13 innings with a strike rate of 135.17. It was nice to have Dhoni back as captain, but he couldn’t stop what was one of the team’s worst seasons.
MS Dhoni hasn’t said yet if he will play in the next IPL. He will decide in December after thinking for a couple of months. At 44, he is still a big name in the league. Dhoni has played the most IPL matches, 278, and scored 5,439 runs. He also has a great record as a wicketkeeper, 201 dismissals.
In a recent interview, MS Dhoni said, I don’t know whether I’ll play or not. I have time to decide. I have some time until December, so I’ll take another couple of months and then I’ll decide.
