Ayush Mhatre has officially been appointed as the captain for India ahead of the upcoming ACC U19 Asia Cup in Dubai, marking a significant milestone in his fast-rising career. After an impressive year across formats and conditions, the young batter has now been handed the responsibility of leading a promising U19 squad in one of the biggest youth tournaments on the calendar.
Ayush Mhatre Under 19 performance as captain
Mhatre’s selection as captain comes on the back of strong performances and remarkable maturity shown on tours to England and Australia. In England, he produced one of the most eye-catching knocks of the season—a blistering 126 off 80 balls in the Youth Test at Chelmsford, one of the fastest centuries in Youth Test history.
In the same match, he also added 80 runs in the first innings, finishing with 206 runs in the match. He went on to score twin hundreds in the Youth Test series, silencing critics and showing his ability to perform under pressure overseas.
His consistency earned him the captaincy for the subsequent India U19 tour of Australia, further cementing his status as one of the most trusted young leaders in India’s system.
Mhatre Domestic stats
Domestically, he has excelled for Mumbai as well, scoring 504 First-Class runs in nine matches, including two centuries, and delivering a record-breaking List A knock as the youngest to score 150+ in a men’s domestic 50-over match.
With the bat, he has shown range—from long-format temperament to explosive T20 hitting. In IPL 2025, he smashed 240 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 189, including a top score of 94, proving his ability to dominate at the highest junior level.
