Mithun Manhas BCCI President: From CSK Batter to Indian Cricket’s New Leader

Former middle-order batter of Chennai Super Kings, Mithun Manhas, is all set to be elected as the new BCCI President. However, this leaves many people with the question of who Mithun Manhas really is. And how did he become the BCCI president?

So, here is the story of Mithun Manhas as a player and in administrative roles as well.

Who is Mithun Manhas?

Manhas is an Indian cricketer with immense talent. He has played for Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir in the domestic circuit. Manhas has played 157 FC games and 130 List A matches for both teams.

In First-Class cricket, he scored 9714 runs at an average of 45 and with a similar average, he scored 4126 runs in List A as well. He was a contemporary of players like Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly, among others. As a result, one can simply conclude that he didn’t go on to make it big because he was born in the wrong era.

Mithun Manhas: Administrative Roles and Ideology

Following the conclusion of his playing career, Manhas took up a role in the coaching and administrative field. In recent years, he was part of the coaching staff of RCB and Gujarat Titans.

However, a few years ago, he was appointed as the administrator of the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). Prior to that, he was the convener of the North Zone for the Duleep Trophy.

When it comes to sporting ideology, Manhas is very clear in his mind. According to Sportstar, the player wants to ensure that every young player gets the right and “absolute support” for the respective field in which they want to make their career.

Even former Indian Cricket Atul Wassan rallied Manhas’ cause, “It is in continuation of the BCCI’s policy now to have a player at the helm of the board. Mithun’s cricket and his administrative acumen are known to everybody, and I hope he will continue to contribute to the game with his ideas. He did good work in Jammu and Kashmir, and I hope he will do good for the players,” Wassan said, reports Sportstar.

In 2008, he made his IPL debut for the Delhi Capitals, then moved to the Pune Warriors India, and later joined our beloved Chennai Super Kings in 2014.

Originally, he was considered a replacement for Badrinath, whom we couldn’t buy that year. However, the move didn’t turn out to be the best for both parties.

Coming off consecutive seasons as winners, CSK was under a lot of pressure to perform well, and that pressure seems to have gotten to Manhas. The player only got to bat in 5 out of the 12 games he played in, but failed to make an impact.

Throughout the season, Manhas was only able to score 35 runs from 23 balls at a strike rate of 152. Eventually, that season also turned out to be his last as a player.

 From Player to President

Mithun Manhas’ journey reflects resilience and evolution—from a dependable domestic run-machine to a short IPL stint with CSK, and now a respected administrator. His election as BCCI President marks a new chapter where his cricketing insight and administrative vision can shape Indian cricket’s future, especially for the next generation of players.
