At the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Friday, Texas Super Kings defeated LA Knight Riders by a score of 69 runs in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 season opener. Despite Andre Russell scoring a half-century (55), LAKR were dismissed for 112 runs in just 14 overs while chasing a target of 182.
Mohammad Mohsin, meanwhile, claimed four wickets for TSK. Texas initially scored 181/6 in 20 overs thanks to notable scores from Miler (61) and Conway (55). Lockie Ferguson and Ali Khan each claimed two wickets for LAKR.
David Miller, Devon Convey provided TSK inning momentum
TSK used their allotted 20 overs to post a respectable total of 181 runs for the cost of 6 wickets. With 55 runs off 37 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six, Devon Conway had a significant inning. Consequently, Conway became the first batter to hit a half-century in the maiden Major League Cricket.
On top of that, David Miller stood out as the star performer with two fours and four sixes in his scorching 61 off just 42 balls. Mitchell Santner made an immediate contribution of 21 runs off 14 pitches. With two wickets each, Ali Khan and Lockie Ferguson were the Knight Riders’ top two bowlers.
When LAKR needed to score 182 runs to win, they struggled and were dismissed for just 112 runs in 14 overs. With an incredible knock of 55 runs off 34 balls that contained 7 fours and 3 sixes, Andre Russell displayed some tenacity. Jaskaran Malhotra also contributed 22 runs off 11 deliveries, playing a useful knock. The Super Kings bowlers, though, proved to be too powerful for the Knight Riders. Taking 4 wickets for just 8 runs in his 3 overs, Mohammad Mohsin excelled. Gerald Coetzee and Rusty Theron both put forth strong performances, both taking two wickets.
The Super Kings demonstrated their superiority in both bowling and hitting in this triumph.
