Chennai Super Kings’ administration is all set for a major overhaul, as they are likely to re-appoint N Srinivasan, the former BCCI president, as the chairman.
According to ESPNcrinfo, Srinivasan will take up the chair, while his daughter Rupa Gurunath will be taking up the role of the director. Although the franchise has put out an official statement, the move will be finalised following the AGM on September 27.
Kashi Vishwanathan, who is the current CEO of the franchise, confirmed the development. In a conversation with PTI, he said, “See, it’s a great boon for CSK. He’s been the best administrator for us, and I’m very happy that he’s come back into CSK. He’ll be in an advisory role only because he doesn’t travel much, but we’ll be in contact with him.”
With this move, Srinivasan will not just have control over the CSK franchise but also play an integral part in overseeing the international ventures. This includes the two international franchises, JSK and TSK, which the Super Kings own in SA20 and MLC, respectively.
Why was N Srinivasan removed from CSK?
N Srinivasan was removed from active roles with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) primarily due to allegations of conflict of interest and his association with the IPL 2013 spot-fixing and betting scandal.
This scandal involves his son-in-law, Gurunath Meiyappan, who was a senior CSK official. Although Srinivasan was not directly accused of betting, his dual position as BCCI President and CSK owner led to intense scrutiny and criticism from the Supreme Court of India.
This ultimately forced him to step down from his leadership roles to uphold transparency and integrity within cricket administration.
N. Srinivasan as a cricket administrator
N. Srinivasan rose as one of Indian cricket’s most influential administrators. As BCCI president from 2011 to 2013, he oversaw record broadcasting deals, expanded the IPL’s reach, and strengthened the board’s global dominance.
In 2014, he became the first chairman of the ICC, marking India’s growing control in world cricket. Under his leadership, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association modernised its infrastructure, hosting key international matches.
He backed domestic cricket, women’s cricket, and facilities development. Beyond administration, his role with Chennai Super Kings brought unmatched IPL success, cementing his status as a powerful figure who shaped cricket’s commercial and organisational growth.
Srinivasan’s Return: Stability and Strategy for the Super Kings’ Future
The return of N. Srinivasan signals stability and strength for the Super Kings setup. His track record as an administrator and his deep understanding of the franchise’s culture bring both credibility and experience back to the table.
With him as chairman, CSK gain not only sharper governance but also a stronger influence in the wider cricketing ecosystem. His presence will ensure that the franchise’s expansion into SA20 and MLC stays strategically aligned, while also safeguarding CSK’s dominance in the IPL.
For fans, this move feels like the old guard returning—one that could anchor the Super Kings’ future both on and off the field.
