In the effort to win the five-match series against Australia, opener Ruturaj Gaikwad had a great game, playing a big part in India’s strong total in the third T20I in Guwahati. After doing well with a fifty in the last game, Gaikwad kept up his aggressive batting against the Australian bowlers at Barsapara Cricket Stadium. He went on to score a fantastic century, setting new records in the deciding match of the series.
Following a comfortable win in the second T20I against Australia, Suryakumar Yadav and his team decided to make a single change in their lineup. Pacer Avesh Khan was brought in to replace Mukesh Kumar, and Deepak Chahar was confirmed as Mukesh’s replacement as he took a break for his marriage.
In the Guwahati match, India chose to bat first but faced early challenges as the young players Yashasvi Jaiswal (6) and Ishan Kishan (0) couldn’t score well, bringing India to 24-2.
Ruturaj and Suryakumar took the score to 80-2 in first 10 overs
Despite initial setbacks, Gaikwad and skipper Suryakumar worked together to bring India back into the game, taking the team to 80-2 within the first 10 overs. After Suryakumar left the field in the 10th over, Gaikwad took charge, pushing India towards a strong total. He reached his half-century in 32 balls and sped up in the final overs, achieving his century in the next 20 balls.
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s first International century; joins Rohit and Virat club
The Chennai Super Kings player, Ruturaj Gaikwad, scored his first international century in only 52 balls. This puts him in the same category as Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli, who have also achieved centuries for India in T20Is. Gaikwad is now the ninth Indian batter to reach a century in T20Is and the sixth to do so in the last two years. His remarkable performance is also reflected in the CSK highest score in IPL scorecard.
Second-highest individual score for India in T20I cricket; 123 runs off 57 balls
His outstanding score of 123 runs off 57 balls helped India reach a total of 222-3 in 20 overs. This makes it the second-highest individual score for India in T20I cricket, with Shubman Gill’s 126* against New Zealand being the highest. It’s worth mentioning that Gaikwad is the first Indian batter to score a T20I century against Australia.
