On Tuesday, Chennai Super Kings secured the services of another New Zealand all-rounder in the form of Daryl Mitchell. The player was sold to the Chennai based franchise for a staggering figure of 14 crores. And the player still cannot believe what change just one World Cup in India has brought for him.
Post the auction, the player was live with Stuff.co.nz where he was quoted saying:
“It was obviously a pretty special night for us as a family, sitting here with my wife watching the whole auction. To see your name come up and then to go through that whole experience is definitely something that will stick with us for the rest of our lives. Your heart starts to pump a little bit, as you see the paddles going up. But having been through the auction before and going unsold, it was a pretty special night last night to experience that.”
CSK buy Daryl Mitchell for whopping amount
Mitchell had a stellar outing in the ODI World Cup just last month. He was the part of the New Zealand set-up that reached the semifinal of the tournament. They had a stellar team, but Mitchell along with Rachin Ravindra managed to outshine the likes of others.
The Kiwi allrounder brought forth his batting masterclass in the tough Indian conditions. And in just 10 matches he managed to score 552 runs for his side. These include 2 centuries, both of which came against India.
This performance of his was met with several teams showing great interest in his services. Everyone had seen what great prowess he possessed against spin bowling, on slow Indian tracks. Hence, everyone was out to buy him. However, it was CSK in the end who managed to secure him for a whopping $2.5 Million Australian dollars.

Further in the same interview, Mitchell also mentioned how these little things matter for the family. He told everyone that it was his little girl’s fifth birthday and this was perhaps the best present that he could have given her.
“She’s got a pretty good present, waking up to that – not that she understands what’s going on. But that’s the whole thing about these sorts of situations – it helps set up your family in many ways so that they can grow up and enjoy the things they love. For me, that’s the really cool thing about it. They’re the ones that are the reason why you do all this.”
Mitchell earlier was bought by Rajasthan Royals in 2022 auction as well. However, he did not get the chance to showcase his talent at the biggest stage, as he featured just in one game for the inaugural winners.
Now, he will be playing alongside his compatriots in the form of Devon Conway, Mitch Santner and Rachin Ravindra. It will be exciting to see how CSK will line up with this fired up Kiwi Stacked lineup.
