MLC 2025, TSK vs SFU Highlights: Super Kings Succumb to a Last Ball Loss, Fall to Chase 149

MLC 2025, TSK vs SFU Highlights: The Texas Super Kings endured a heartbreaking one-run defeat against the San Francisco Unicorns in a thrilling MLC 2025 encounter in Lauderhill. It was a game that swung back and forth, showcasing the Faf du Plessis team’s fighting spirit despite the narrow loss. TSK fought hard to chase the 149-run target, but ultimately, the Unicorns held their nerve on the final delivery.

The Unicorns’ innings saw Matthew Short play a defiant knock, making 80 runs off 63 balls. He had to battle hard, especially after Kings’ bowlers, led by Akeal Hosein, put them under pressure, taking three early wickets for just 25 runs in the powerplay. Hosein was brilliant with his control. However, their other batters, particularly Hassan Khan with 40 off 25, helped them recover. The TSK worked tirelessly on a sticky surface, but Short managed to keep their scoreboard ticking to reach 148/6.

The chase began with some early setbacks, losing both openers to Brody Couch. Marcus Stoinis and Saiteja Mukkamalla then came together to steady the ship, trying to rebuild the innings, though the required run-rate was steadily creeping up. The real spark came when Donovan Ferreira walked to the crease after Mukkamalla’s dismissal. Donovan was simply explosive, smashing 39 runs off just 20 balls. His power hitting kept the hopes alive, bringing the equation down to a manageable 23 runs from the final 12 deliveries.

However, the game took another dramatic turn in the 19th over. Romario Shepherd bowled a pivotal over, removing both the in-form Donovan Ferreira and Shubham Ranjane in quick succession. This double blow was tough, putting the pressure back on us.

Going into the final over, TSK needed 13 runs for victory. Mohammad Mohsin showed tremendous courage, hitting two crucial boundaries to keep us in the hunt. It all came down to the very last ball, with three runs required. In a desperate attempt to complete a second run and tie the match, Calvin Savage was unfortunately run out at the keeper’s end.
