Chennai Super Kings’ season in the IPL 2025 might be over. The franchise has suffered 8 losses in 10 games and is out of the playoffs. However, they continue to build a perfect squad for next season. To do so, they have called upon India’s fastest centurion in T20s for a mid-season trial.
According to TOI, Urvil Patel was one of the three players whom CSK had called for a trial on 27 April. These three players were Aman Khan of Mumbai, Salman Nizar of Kerela, and Urvil Patel of Gujarat.
Urvil Patel gives trail for CSK
The player is reported to have scored 41 runs off 20 balls in his first inning during the trial and followed it up with a 20-ball fifty in the second. During his time at the crease, the 26-year-old batter smashed 5 sixes in both innings.
Several CSK squad members who were present during the trials praised and appreciated his knock. Patel was also part of the earlier trial that saw Mhatre get a place in the Chennai side.
Coming to the player, Urvil Patel caught everyone’s attention with his 28-ball ton during a Syed Mushtaq Ali game in the 2024-25 season. The player scored this handy knock against Tripura, which also enabled his team to smash a mammoth total of 315 runs.
Despite this knock, the player has been severely overlooked in the IPL auction. He went unsold during the mega auction, and while some anticipated him becoming an injury replacement, that has not happened yet.
Apart from being a batter, Urvil is also a wicketkeeper, so the message is clear that the team is looking forward to a replacement for MS Dhoni’s role as a keeper as well.
Urvil Patel’s stats show that the southpaw batter has played 47 games and scored 1162 runs at a strike rate of 170. His innings include 4 fifties and 2 centuries.
Hopefully, he will be selected by an IPL team and will have a chance to showcase his talent to the world.
