WATCH: Faf du Plessis Recreates Rohit Sharma’s Winning Dance after clinching CPL Title

Saint Lucia Kings (SLK) made history by clinching their first-ever Caribbean Premier League (CPL) title. SLK defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) by 6 wickets in the final at Providence Stadium on October 7. But what attracted Chennai Super Kings fans’ attention was Faf du Plessis’ winning dance.

Following the win, SLK captain Plessis drew widespread attention with his celebration for someone who always looks to be in a serious mood this was something astounding. After receiving the CPL trophy, du Plessis recreated Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s iconic slow-motion walk from the 2024 T20 World Cup celebrations. The video of this moment quickly went viral, with fans sharing clips of du Plessis walking confidently to join his team in celebration, mimicking Sharma’s memorable style.

SLK won the toss and elected to bowl, making early inroads into GAW’s lineup. Every bowler contributed with a wicket, with Noor Ahmad emerging as the standout performer. Ahmad’s economical spell saw him claim three wickets for just 19 runs in his four overs, effectively stifling GAW’s scoring momentum. Despite some resistance from Dwaine Pretorius, who scored 25 off 12 balls, and Shai Hope, who contributed 22 off 24 balls, GAW could only post a modest 138/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing 139, SLK faced initial setbacks, losing key players early. Faf du Plessis (21 off 21 balls) and Johnson Charles (7), who together accumulated over 850 runs in the tournament, were dismissed cheaply. With the team struggling at 51 for 4, Roston Chase and Aaron Jones took charge. Chase, with a quick-fire 39 off 22 balls, hit two fours and two sixes, while Jones scored an impressive 48 off 31 balls, including two fours and four sixes. Their counter-attacking partnership brought SLK back into the game, and they reached the target with 11 balls to spare, securing a memorable victory.

In the post-match ceremony, du Plessis expressed his pride in the team, saying, “We have been really consistent throughout the league stage, and I believe the two best teams played in the final. We always believed in the depth of the squad, and credit to Roston and Aaron for absorbing the pressure and stepping up when needed. It takes a special team performance to come here to their home ground and beat them twice. I am extremely proud of the team for showing grit throughout the tournament and getting the job done.”

This win marks a very special place in T20 franchise cricket as Punjab Super Kings’ sister franchise SLK wins the maiden title for their co-owners Preity Zinta, Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, and Karan Paul.
