India’s star all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, was honored with the “Fielder of the Match” award for his outstanding diving catch at backward point during the World Cup match against Bangladesh in Pune. The award was presented by the team’s fielding coach, T. Dilip. What made this recognition particularly special was that Jadeja had expressed his desire to win the award immediately after taking the catch.
Jadeja’s exceptional catch triumphed over another remarkable fielding effort by wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul, who had taken a spectacular one-handed diving catch to dismiss Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the same game, causing wild celebration in the Indian dressing room.
A behind-the-scenes video shared by the BCCI captured a lighthearted moment in the Team India dressing room as the fielding coach announced the winner. His teammates surrounded Jadeja, and KL Rahul, the previous award recipient, was asked by Dilip to present the medal to Jadeja. In a wonderful gesture, Jadeja, instead, draped the medal around the neck of the fielding coach himself.
However, this time, Dilip added an extra twist to his announcement of the “Fielder of the Match” award. Following the team’s previous match against Pakistan, he revealed the result with a nicely edited video featuring KL Rahul, complete with special effects. But this time, the result was unveiled on the stadium’s large screen, taking the entire Indian squad by surprise.
During the award presentation, the Indian fielding coach praised the outstanding diving efforts in the field made by both Rahul and Jadeja. He emphasized the team’s commitment to taking individual catches and delivering an all-around performance to save runs, ultimately leading him to choose Jadeja as the recipient of the best fielding award.
“A grand win, a grand Medal Ceremony A celebration of “Giant” proportions This time the Dressing room BTS went beyond the boundary – quite literally,” BCCI posted on X with the video. A user, then, cut out the portion from the video where Dilip points toward the big screen to declare the fielder of the match award.

“We have played enough. We all know that win isn’t built-in runs or wickets. I think it is also built on marvelous catches, and tremendous diving and today was a great example of that. It’s not the way we save, but the numbers saved. Two game-changing catches by KL and Jadeja. We as a team saved 13 runs today. That was fantastic. So let’s roll the carpet for today’s evening star. On the field today one person was like a lion. Commanding on the field, outstanding effort with the direct hit, saving, and fantastic top catch- Jadeja,” Dilip said in the video.
