Deepak Chahar, a key player for Chennai Super Kings over the years, found himself at the center of a bidding war between CSK and Mumbai Indians (MI) during the IPL 2025 auction. Although Chahar had been with CSK since 2018 and wanted to continue his journey with the franchise, the auction dynamics made it difficult for CSK to bring him back. Despite the intense bidding, it was MI, led by Hardik Pandya, that secured Chahar for ₹9.25 crore.
In an interview with Sports Tak, Chahar expressed his special connection with CSK, which he credited to MS Dhoni’s support. He mentioned that Dhoni had backed him from the very beginning, and it was because of him that Chahar hoped to stay with CSK. However, Chahar understood that the auction would be a challenge, especially since CSK had already spent most of their purse. With only ₹13 crore left, he knew it would be tough for them to match the high bids for him.
“I had made up my mind that it would be difficult. Last year, my name came first, so it was easier for CSK to bring me back. This time, with my name coming up on Day 2, I knew it was going to be tough,” Chahar said.
Despite the disappointment of not rejoining CSK, Chahar has no hard feelings and remains grateful for his time with the team. Now, with MI, he sees a new opportunity to revive his career. Playing alongside players like Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav could also boost his chances of making a comeback to the Indian team. The IPL 2025 season offers Chahar a fresh chance to shine and continue his cricketing journey.
