Finally, the wait is over, the IPL 2025 Mega Auction is here in full swing. The auction is being held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with teams bidding and acquiring their preferred players. Coming into the auction with a purse value of 55 crores, the five-time IPL winner, Chennai Super Kings aim to bolster their squad hoping to give MS Dhoni an unforgettable farewell.

CSK has retained 5 players, namely, MS Dhoni, Rururaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, and Metheesha Pathirana. Consequently, they were left with one RTM Card.

Now let’s take a look at the list of players bought by CSK in the ongoing IPL 2025 Mega Auction held on 24 & 25 November.

Full List of Players CSK Bought in IPL 2025 Mega Auction:

Devon Conway – Rs 6.25 Crore

Chennai Super Kings initiated their first buy by securing New Zealand batter Devon Conway. Swooping the Kiwi batter for a price of 6.25 crores. The best thing about the Conway rejoining CSK is that they reserved their RTM.

Devon Conway played a key role in Chennai Super Kings’ success in IPL 2023. After making his CSK debut in 2022, Conway was bought for INR 1 crore, a wise investment by the team. In IPL 2022, he scored 252 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of 147.

The following year, he impressed further by scoring 672 runs in 16 matches with an average of 52 and a strike rate of 140, finishing as the third-highest run-scorer. His best performance came with a 92* against Punjab Kings, though CSK lost that match in a thrilling finish.

Having missed the previous IPL season due to a thumb injury, Conway would be hoping to contribute to CSK’s successes in the upcoming IPL 2025. His addition adds an extra layer to the team, especially in the wicketkeeping position.

Rahul Tripathi – Rs 3.4 Crore

After acquiring the Kiwi opener, CSK quickly secured Rahul Tripathi for just 3.4 crores, making it a bargain of a buy. In the previous IPL season, 33-year-old Tripathi played for Sunrises Hyderabad after making his debut for Pune Super Giants in 2017.

Rahul Tripathi has been a consistent performer in the IPL, amassing 2,236 runs in 95 matches. His batting average is 27.27, with a strike rate of 139.31. In 2022, he had his best season, scoring 413 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 158.24. Tripathi has also shown solid performances in 2021 and 2023, scoring 397 runs in 17 matches and 273 runs in 13 matches, respectively. Though his runs dipped in 2019 and 2020, he could be an impactful player for his new IPL team, providing stability and firepower in the middle order.

Rachin Ravindra – Rs 4 Crore

Minutes later in the auction, CSK used their RTM to capture left-handed Rachin Ravindra for a price of 4 crores. In December 2023, Ravindra was bought by Chennai Super Kings for the 2024 IPL season. However, he was unexpectedly released after having a decent run with the team.

A rising star from New Zealand, Ravindra has been making waves with his impressive performances. Born in Wellington on November 18, 1999, he developed his love for cricket early, picking up a bat at the age of five. Inspired by cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Ravindra honed his skills in New Zealand and made trips to Bangalore for club cricket, where he received expert coaching.

Ravindra quickly rose through the ranks, representing New Zealand in the Under-19 World Cups of 2016 and 2018. His breakthrough came during the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, where he impressed with his batting skills, particularly with a memorable century against England.

His versatility as an all-rounder, strong batting ability, and knack for taking crucial wickets made him a valuable addition to the CSK squad, especially with Devon Conway back after the injury. Ravindra has shown his ability to score quickly time and again.

Ravichandran Ashwin – Rs 9.75 Crore

Adamant to bring their ‘Ash Anna’ back home, Chennai Super Kings bought Ravichandran Ashwin for a whooping Rs 9.75 Crore. Recently, the India all-rounder re-joined his former Indian Premier League franchise in an administrative role. He took on the responsibility of managing their high-performance centre. Notably, Ashwin’s shift to CSK had suggested his possible return to CSK for the next IPL season.

Ashwin made his IPL debut with CSK in 2009 and played for the franchise until 2015. During his seven-year stint, he was part of CSK’s two IPL-winning teams in 2010 and 2011. Ashwin also played a key role in CSK’s 2010 Champions League victory, finishing as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 13 wickets. In 2018, after CSK’s two-year ban, Ashwin was picked up by Kings XI Punjab (now PBKS) during the mega auction. His contributions to CSK’s success were vital during his time with the team.

Khaleel Ahmed – Rs 4.80 crore

CSK’s next buy came in the form of Khaleel Ahmed for 4.80 crore. Khaleel has shown steady progress in the IPL, with notable performances, especially in 2019 and 2022. His economy and wicket-taking ability have improved over the years especially with his previous IPL team Delhi Capitals, establishing him as a key bowler.

Khaleel Ahmed recently reflected on a memorable incident from the 2018 Asia Cup, where MS Dhoni played a crucial role in his career. During this tournament, Khaleel made his ODI debut and had the opportunity to bowl the first over for India, a moment he had dreamed of since childhood.

In a conversation with Aakash Chopra on YouTube, Khaleel spoke about his deep respect for Dhoni, describing him as more than just a friend or elder brother. He referred to Dhoni as his ‘guru,’ acknowledging the immense guidance and support the former captain had provided throughout his journey. Khaleel expressed how Dhoni’s wisdom and advice had a lasting impact on him, both as a cricketer and as a person.

The bond between them is not just one of friendship but also of mentorship, which has helped shape Khaleel’s career in Indian cricket. Fortunately, the 27-year-old will now get to live his dream of playing under Dhoni’s mentorship wearing the “Yellove Jersey”.

Noor Ahmad – Rs 10 crore

In his debut IPL season with Gujarat Titans in 2023, he took 16 wickets, playing a key role in their run to the final. However, his former team lost the final to CSK, his new IPL franchise.
