Former cricketer Ambati Rayudu has ignited speculation by expressing his wish to see Rohit Sharma playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Rayudu went a step further, suggesting that if MS Dhoni, the legendary cricketer and current captain of CSK, decides to retire after the upcoming season, Rohit Sharma could potentially take on the leadership role for the five-time champions.
The remark comes amid a captaincy controversy surrounding Rohit Sharma at the Mumbai Indians. The franchise surprised many by appointing Hardik Pandya as the new captain, prompting various cricketers to share cryptic stories on Instagram. The situation became more intriguing when Rohit Sharma’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh, refuted Mark Boucher’s comments about Rohit’s recent batting performances, calling them misleading.
When questioned about the ongoing matter, Ambati Rayudu weighed in on the situation, asserting that Rohit Sharma has several years left to play in the IPL. Rayudu expressed his belief that any team would cherish having a player of Rohit’s caliber. Furthermore, he suggested that if Rohit Sharma is discontented with the current scenario, he could consider joining CSK in the upcoming season.
If MS Dhoni retires then Rohit Sharma can lead CSK in 2025: Ambati Rayudu
“Rohit Sharma can play IPL for the next 5-6 years. If he wants to captain, the whole world is open for him. He can easily captain wherever he wants. I want Rohit Sharma to play for CSK in 2025; if MS (Dhoni) retires, then Rohit can lead as well,” Rayudu stated in an interview with News24.
Rohit Sharma, currently the captain of the Indian cricket team, is expected to rejoin the Mumbai Indians camp after a brief break. Leading India to a triumphant 4-1 series win against England in the Test matches, Rohit Sharma played a pivotal role. Following this success, he is anticipated to take a week’s break before gearing up for the T20 excitement as the IPL is scheduled to commence on March 22 in Chennai. Mumbai Indians will open their campaign against the Gujarat Titans on March 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The unfolding dynamics in the Mumbai Indians camp and Rayudu’s intriguing suggestion have added an extra layer of anticipation and curiosity to the IPL 2025 season, setting the stage for potential twists in team compositions and leadership roles in the years to come.
