Ayush Mhatre IPL Debut: CSK’s Young Star Smashes 32 Off 15 vs MI

Ayush Mhatre IPL Debut: Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 witnessed another young star rise as 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre announced his arrival in style for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Sunday. The Mumbai-born teenager, playing his first-ever IPL match, delivered a thrilling performance that left fans and experts in awe.

Coming in to bat early after CSK lost Rachin Ravindra in the powerplay, Mhatre showed no nerves. Facing only his second ball in the IPL, he confidently drove left-arm pacer Ashwani Kumar for a boundary. Just a few deliveries later, he casually flicked a six over long-on, announcing his fearless intent. When Ashwani tried to intimidate him with a sharp bouncer, Mhatre was ready, pulling it majestically into the mid-wicket stands for another six.

In just four balls, the youngster raced to 17 runs, electrifying the CSK fans in the stadium. What stood out was his composure—despite the high-pressure match against arch-rivals MI, he batted with the freedom of a seasoned player. His aggressive approach in the powerplay even earned a proud smile from CSK captain MS Dhoni, who was seen watching from the dressing room with admiration.

Mhatre’s explosive knock of 32 runs off just 15 balls (including 4 fours and 2 sixes) came to an end in the seventh over when Deepak Chahar deceived him with a clever slower ball. Though his innings was short, it left a lasting impression. As he walked back, India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav, playing for MI, gave him an encouraging pat on the back, a heartwarming moment that highlighted the respect he had earned.

Interestingly, Mhatre wasn’t even part of CSK’s original squad. He was signed as a replacement for the injured Ruturaj Gaikwad midway through the season. A big fan of Rohit Sharma, the teenager had previously impressed in domestic cricket for Mumbai and caught CSK’s attention during trials. His fearless debut proved why he’s one to watch in the future.

Though CSK couldn’t capitalize fully on his fiery start, Mhatre’s innings was a bright spark in the match. With such a confident debut, the 17-year-old has surely taken his first step toward a promising IPL career. Fans will now be eagerly waiting to see more of his fearless batting in the upcoming games.
