2008 season – Runner Up

Chennai Super Kings showcased their talent as one of the two finalists in the inaugural 2008 IPL season. Despite finishing third in the group stage with a commendable 8 wins out of 14 matches.

Their journey to the final was marked by an amazing victory in the semi-finals against Punjab, where they enjoyed a nine-wicket win. 

Although they failed to win the inaugural title, they certainly announced their arrival in style.

2009 season – Semi-finals (playoffs)

In the 2009 IPL season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) displayed a noteworthy performance, securing the status of the second-best team in the group stage. With an impressive record of 8 wins out of 14 games, CSK showed consistency and determination throughout the tournament. 

However, despite their promising performance, CSK faced a setback in the semi-final clash against Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB). The team fell short and was defeated by sex wickets, concluding their campaign in the playoffs with a their-place finish.

2012 season – Runner-Up

In the 2012 IPL season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had an opportunity to bring their name in history by becoming the first team to achieve three consecutive IPL titles. The team secured fourth position in the group stage with 8 wins out of 16 matches, they rallied in the playoffs. 

CSK defeated Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator by 38 runs and Delhi Daredevils in Qualifier 2 by a convincing 86-run margin, earning their spot in the final for the third successive year. However, despite their best efforts, CSK fell short in the final against Kolkata Knight Riders.

2013 season – Runner Up

In the 2013 IPL season, Chennai Super Kings showcased their excellence, emerging as the top team in the group stage with an impressive 11 victories out of 16 matches. Their performance continued into the playoffs, securing a win against MI in Qualifier 1. It pushed them to their fourth consecutive IPL final. 

However, they faced defeat at the hands of Mumbai Indians, losing by 23 runs and settling for the runner-up position in the tournament. The hard work marked another extraordinary yet unfulfilled campaign for the CSK team.

2014 season – Playoffs

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured a playoff in the 2014 IPL season. Despite finishing third in the group stage, CSK experienced nine victories out of 14 matches. Although Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) edged them out with a superior Net Run Rate (NRR). 

However, in the Eliminator match against Kings XI Punjab, CSK faced a setback, giving in to a defeat by 24 runs. Unfortunately, this loss marked the end of their campaign for that season. Despite the disappointment, CSK’s consistent performance and ability to reach the playoffs underscored their status as one of the IPL’s most loved teams.

2015 season – Runner Up

In the 2015 IPL season, Chennai Super Kings continued their impressive performance, securing the top spot in the group stage with nine wins out of 14 matches. Despite a setback against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 1, where they lost by 25 runs, CSK bounced back strongly in Qualifier 2, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 3 wickets to secure their sixth IPL final appearance. However, their competition for the title was snitched by MI once again in the final, as they fell short by 41 runs, settling for the runners-up position in the tournament.

2019 season – Runner Up

In the 2019 IPL season, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) showcased their unforgettable presence by securing a spot in the playoffs, finishing second in the group stage with an impressive tally of nine wins out of 14 games. 

Despite facing a setback against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 1, where they lost by 6 wickets, CSK bounced back in Qualifier 2 with a convincing 6-wicket victory over Delhi Capitals (DC), ensuring their place in the final. However, the final against MI made them lose the battle, losing by a mere 1 run, resulting in their runner-up finish for the season.
