Indian fast bowler Deepak Chahar has expressed hope that his former IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), will bid for him in the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. Chahar has been associated with CSK for several years and certainly holds fond memories of his time with the team. Although he was not retained by CSK ahead of the 2022 season, the franchise still invested heavily in him. Being bought back for Rs 14 crore at the auction, Chahar made a big statement. On top of that, MS Dhoni’s belief in him and his skills reinforced his value to the team as a key bowler.
In a recent interview, Chahar shared his desire to return to CSK and highlighted his strength in taking wickets during powerplay overs. He noted that his ability to restrict runs early in the game has become even more crucial in modern T20 cricket, where scoring rates in the powerplay have significantly increased.

“I was not retained by them in the last mega auction as well. But they went all out for me and bought me back. I don’t know what will happen this year, but I know my skill will be valued more now given the fact that around 90-100 runs are being scored in the Powerplay and that’s why the teams are scoring more than 200 more frequently. I have proved how valuable I can be in limiting runs in that phase of the game,” Chahar told a reputed media house.
CSK Retains Young Matheesha Pathirana Over Deepak Chahar ahead of IPL 2025 Mega Auction
Chahar has faced challenges due to injuries that kept him out of action for extended periods. Despite that, he remains confident that his proven track record will make him a valuable asset for any team. CSK has retained Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Shivam Dube, and Matheesha Pathirana for the 2025 season. Consequently, they do not have a Right To Match (RTM) card for the auction. This means their strategy for acquiring players will be crucial and may not guarantee Chahar’s return.
However, Chahar is optimistic about CSK’s interest in him but also remains open to other options. If CSK doesn’t bring him back, Chahar said he would like to play for Rajasthan Royals, aligning with his roots and expressing admiration for the franchise. “I think they will bid for me again. I would like to don the yellow jersey again and if not that, then I would want Rajasthan Royals to bid for me,” he added.
With high-profile players like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Deepak Chahar, and Shreyas Iyer in the pool, the IPL 2025 Mega Auction will certainly be one to watch. It will be interesting to see how CSK goes by with the auction. According to CSK CEO Vasi, the franchise will look to sustain its core team. Nonetheless, nothing can be predicted, hence, the auction will be a massive treat for the viewers ahead of the real show.
