Having last played for South Africa in December 2020, Du Plessis has since become a global presence in various franchise leagues worldwide. After securing an IPL victory with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2021, the 39-year-old was acquired by RCB in the 2022 auction, where he was also appointed captain.
Du Plessis, during his tenure with RCB, has been in remarkable form, amassing 1198 runs over two seasons. In the 2023 season, the opening batter showcased his prowess by scoring 730 runs in 14 matches, including 8 fifties.

In an interview with the Abu Dhabi T10 League, Du Plessis expressed confidence in his potential return, indicating ongoing discussions that have taken place over the past couple of years. He mentioned that the T20 World Cup next year is a key factor in determining the right balance for his return, a topic that he has discussed with the new coach.
Du Plessis emphasized the importance of taking care of his body, especially as he continues to play at the highest level. He shared insights into his rigorous fitness regimen, acknowledging the necessity of hard work to maintain peak performance. As he approaches the prospect of representing South Africa again, Du Plessis remains committed to ensuring his body is in optimal condition for the challenges of international cricket.
