Macneil Noronha replace injured Ramakrishna Ghosh in Chennai Super Kings squad

Chennai Super Kings have announced Karnataka all-rounder Macneil Noronha as the replacement for injured pacer Ramakrishna Ghosh for the remainder of IPL 2026.

CSK have already been heavily affected by injuries this season, with players like Nathan Ellis, Ayush Mhatre, and Khaleel Ahmed sidelined. Ghosh became the latest casualty after suffering a leg fracture during his debut appearance against Mumbai Indians, which eventually turned out to be his only game of the season.

Noronha earned recognition after an impressive Maharaja Trophy 2025 campaign, where he delivered strong performances with both bat and ball for Mangalore Dragons.

Will Macneil make an impact?

Macneil Noronha is a 24-year-old all-rounder from Karnataka. He was part of the championship-winning Mangalore Dragons side in the Maharaja Trophy 2025. Noronha played a key role in the team’s success, scoring 253 runs in 13 matches at an impressive strike rate of 148.82, including 19 sixes in the tournament. He also contributed effectively with the ball, picking up 10 wickets during the season.

CSK have already invested in several young domestic talents who have delivered strongly this season. With another promising player joining the squad, expectations around Macneil will naturally be high. Ramakrishna Ghosh, despite playing only one game before getting ruled out, impressed with figures of 1/24 in 3 overs against MI.

The Karnataka all-rounder, with his power-hitting ability and off-spin bowling, could prove to be a suitable replacement for Ghosh. Considering that the Chennai pitch generally favours spinners, Noronha might turn out to be a smart addition to the squad.

With Super Kings now winning matches consistently and climbing the points table, Macneil will also have to quickly adapt to the pressure and momentum of the side if he gets an opportunity in the playing XI.

CSK’s trust on giving opportunities to young talents

At the auction, CSK targeted domestic talents and also in mid season the team is hunting the same kind of players. Most interesting thing here is it has worked in the team’s favor. From Ayush Mhatre’s fearless innings at top order to Kartik Sharma’s strength in the middle order, and Urvil’s recent fastest IPL fifty to Ramakrishna’s good debut spell the youngsters have delivered very well in clutch moments.

More opportunities are being given for the future stars and the team believes in the concept of “Talent can beat experience”. Also CSK performed very well that they are close to reaching the playoffs with requiring only 2 wins in 3 games remaining.
