MLC 2023, TSK vs SO (Match 10): Faf du Plessis-led Kings face abashing 8-wicket loss

MLC 2023, TSK vs SO: With their third straight victory of the season, Seattle Orcas went to the top of the MLC 2023 points table thanks to their eight-wicket victory over Texas Super Kings, which was aided by Wayne Parnell’s fifer and Quinton de Kock’s half-century.

When Super Kings were put in to bat, they suffered a setback right away when devon Conway was dismissed with a first-ball duck. During the powerplay, Faf du Plessis and Cody Chetty briefly kept the inning from stumbling until Andrew Tye dispatched the TSK captain and Parnell smashed through the middle of the order with three quick strikes.

Their problems were made worse when Mitchell Santner was caught behind and undone by extra pace from Cameron Gannon in the following over. Daniel Sams and Dwayne Bravo’s unconventionally conservative attitude helped the Super Kings restart their innings. Even though there weren’t many possibilities, the pair patiently awaited their scoring chances and moved quickly to punish the Orcas bowlers’ line mistakes. In 45 balls, the pair scored 56 runs together, but Tye broke the stand, and Parnell added two more wickets to dismiss TSK for 127.

Orcas responded by moving cautiously in the direction of the objective. De Kock and Nauman Anwar, the openers, put up a 67-run partnership that came at almost run-a-ball. Anwar in particular had trouble getting going. The pace trio of Sams, Juan Theron, and Zia-ul-Haq consistently outran him throughout the powerplay, which resulted in Orcas scoring just 33 runs.

Orcas were moving at less than run-a-ball until the ninth over of the chase, and De Kock was having a difficult time, too. After that, the southpaw found his footing and took Mitchell Santner down the track, hauling him for a six, and then swiveling Bravo for another six in the following over.

Anwar’s agony, which had lasted 32 balls and 19 runs, ended in the eleventh over when Santner got rid of him. In Santner’s following over, De Kock, who was just about to get going and had reached his fifty with another pulled six off Zia, was also removed. But right when it appeared that TSK might have a slim chance, Heinrch Klaasen disproved that.

He dismantled Mohammad Mohsin in the fifteenth over after already switching to assault mode at the outset. The South African batter hit the bowler for three boundaries and two sixes in the 24-run over after being knocked down by him off the opening ball of the over. The hunt was almost over after that.

We didn’t bat well: TSK Captain, du Plessis after the abashing loss

Faf du Plessis, Captain Texas Super Kings: We didn’t bat well, obviously tricky wicket, you gotta get through first six overs. It does get a bit better after first 10. First six overs for the them was tricky too and then it got easier. We have to find a way and the learning here is to play the first ten overs. After a game like this, we don’t want to have an emotional response, just look at the things you can get better at.
