Newly signed by CSK ahead of IPL 2025, Shreyas Gopal continued his impressive form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25 against Sikkim delivering a match-winning performance. The Holkar Stadium, known for its high-scoring pitch, couldn’t stop Gopal from shining. He spun his magic to bowl out Sikkim for just 82 runs.
Gopal’s brilliant 5/13 was the highlight of the game, marking his second-best figures in T20 cricket. He dismissed key players, including top-scorer Ashish Thapa (18), and followed it up with the wickets of Palzor, Roshan, Ankur, and Lee Yong Lepcha, leaving the opposition in tatters.

Vidyadhar Patil also contributed with two early wickets, setting the stage for Gopal’s domination. With his precise leg-spin, Gopal showed why he remains one of the most effective T20 bowlers in the country. This performance adds to his growing reputation in domestic cricket.
A veteran in the IPL, Gopal has played for teams like Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). He has taken 52 wickets in 51 IPL matches at an economy rate of 8.21. Gopal gained widespread recognition during IPL 2019 when he took a hat-trick against Royal Challengers Bangalore, dismissing Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, and Marcus Stoinis.
Now with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Gopal might have to wait for his chance in a star-studded squad, but his recent performances in domestic cricket could earn him a spot in the playing XI. If he continues to perform like this, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him making an impact in the IPL for CSK. His consistency and experience make him a valuable asset, and he will be looking to contribute whenever called upon.
