Following the early dismissal of Ayush Mhatre, Urvil Mukesh Patel walked in to face the third ball of the innings. Chennai had had the worst possible start to their chase of 180 runs. But Urvil Patel was match-ready.

He was prepared to take on the bowlers from the word go — and that is what he did. The 26-year-old opened his account in IPL with a massive six over midwicket.

Cometh the second over, and Moeen Ali faced the wrath of CSK’s new blood, which is battle ready. Urvil Patel Chennai Super Kings 2025 slog-swept Moeen on the very first ball to showcase his intention. The second ball was smacked over covers for a four, followed by another six over the square-leg boundary.

He scored 15 runs off 4 balls against Ali, taking his team’s total to 25, of which he scored 24. In the third over, he took charge of Harshit Rana and delivered another massive shot into the crowd.

However, in the very next ball, he was caught in the third-man area by Varun Chakravarthy, drawing the curtain on a fabulous inning of 31 runs from just 11 balls. It was a full delivery which Urvil Patel thought he could loft over covers, but could only manage a thick edge which carried to the fielder in the deep.

Despite his great innings, CSK didn’t have a good start to their inning and were five wickets down in the powerplay itself.

Fun Fact: With his explosive debut, Urvil Patel registered one of the highest strike rates for an Indian on IPL debut — putting him on track for discussions about highest strike lists.

That is when Devald Brevis decided to step up to showcase his class. The youngster from South Africa scored 52 runs from just 25 balls. In his short inning, the player smacked 4 fours and 4 sixes.

The move on for him came in the 11th over when he dismantled Vaibhav Arora. In his over alone, he scored 3 fours and 3 sixes to take off 30 runs from the total.

The Finishers: Dube and Dhoni

In the end, Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni ensured a victory for Chennai Super Kings 2025. The duo calmed things down and took the game deep. Dube’s knock of 45 from 40 balls helped bring some calmness to the game, while MS Dhoni smashed a six in the final over to finish things in style.

Although other batters chipped in on crucial occasions, the game will be remembered for the magnificent innings by Urvil Patel and Chennai Super Kings’s bold new era — one that seems ready to make headlines all season long.
