Joburg Super Kings pacer Duan Jansen has been roped in by Glasgow Cosmic for the inaugural season of the European T20 Premier League. The left-arm quick, who is also the twin brother of Marco Jansen, impressed heavily during his stint with JSK earlier this year and has now earned another major opportunity on the global T20 circuit.
Earlier this year, Jansen made a strong impression while representing Joburg Super Kings in the SA20. Initially brought into the squad as an injury replacement, he quickly became a key figure in JSK’s successful run to the playoffs. In just five appearances, the pacer picked up seven wickets and consistently delivered important breakthroughs during the powerplay overs.
Duan Jansen in T20 Cricket
Jansen’s overall T20 numbers further underline his growth as a dependable white-ball bowler. Across 52 T20 matches, he has claimed 55 wickets at an economy rate of 8.46, an impressive return considering he often bowls with the new ball.
His rise has continued in England as well. Ahead of The Hundred, Jansen joined the Vitality Blast and immediately made an impact, taking seven wickets in his first two matches at an economy of 7.42. Those performances appear to have strengthened Glasgow Cosmic’s confidence in adding him to their pace attack for the ETPL.
Star-studded Glasgow Cosmic squad
Glasgow Cosmic have assembled one of the strongest squads for the inaugural ETPL season, combining experienced international stars with leading Scottish cricketers. Alongside Jansen, the franchise has signed major names such as Finn Allen, Liam Livingstone, Josh Philippe, Moises Henriques, Kamindu Mendis, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi, Gerhard Erasmus, and Ali Khan.
The franchise has also placed strong emphasis on local representation. Scotland captain Richie Berrington and explosive opener George Munsey headline the Scottish contingent in the squad.
ETPL’s vision for European cricket
Glasgow Cosmic are owned by Vipul Agrawal, Chairman of Mugafi Group, along with Tansha Batra, while Rashid Khan serves as the CEO of Mugafi Group. Beyond building a competitive franchise, the team has also expressed interest in supporting grassroots cricket and strengthening local infrastructure in Scotland.
The ETPL, jointly developed by Cricket Ireland, Cricket Scotland, and the Royal Dutch Cricket Association, is expected to play a major role in expanding cricket’s footprint across Europe. With international stars, emerging local talent, and strong financial backing involved, the league could become a significant platform for the growth of European cricket in the coming years.
