Chennai Super Kings have shared the names of players they are keeping and letting go for the upcoming Indian Premier League season, scheduled in Dubai on December 19. This is happening for the first time that an auction is scheduled outside India.
Notably, the team has confirmed that former captain MS Dhoni will be playing again. This news is important, especially since Dhoni had surgery on his knee after the IPL 2023.
Ben Sokes won’t be playing in IPL 2024
The team has made a surprising choice to let go of Ben Stokes, who was bought for a high price of 16.25 crores just a year ago. Stokes, who plays as an all-rounder for England, has announced that he won’t be playing in the IPL 2024. He wants to focus on staying fit for the upcoming five-match Test series against India and the T20 World Cup in June.
Chennai Super Kings let go of several players, including Dwaine Pretorius, K Bhagath Varma, Subhranshu Senapati, Ambati Rayudu, Kyle Jamieson, Akash Singh, and Sisanda Magala. Unfortunately, Jamieson, who was initially selected in the IPL 2023 auction, couldn’t play due to an injury, and Magala filled in as his replacement.
Chennai Super Kings have chosen a combination of experienced players and rising talents for the upcoming season. The retained players are Moeen Ali, Deepak Chahar, Devon Conway, Tushar Deshpande, Shivam Dube, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajay Mandal, Mukesh Choudhary, Matheesha Pathirana, Ajinkya Rahane, Shaik Rasheed, Mitchell Santner, Simarjeet Singh, Nishant Sindhu, Prashant Solanki, and Maheesh Theekshana.
CSK has the budget of ₹32.1 crore for the upcoming auction
Ambati Rayudu left the team, and it seems linked to his retirement after IPL 2023. Even with some important players leaving, CSK appears solid and has a budget of ₹32.1 crore for the upcoming auction. The team recently won against the Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 final. Now the team is working to make its squad stronger for the next season. This win marked their fifth IPL title, putting them alongside the Mumbai Indians with the most IPL titles in history.
