Rizvi to Ravindra Checkout list of players bought by CSK in IPL 2024 Auction

The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for the upcoming 2024 season took place in Dubai on Tuesday, December 19. The mini-auction was a perfect opportunity for franchises to complete their squads. By adding exactly what’s needed at its best price they were given a chance to acquire what was missing the previous time.

Notably, players not only bring their skills with them but also fulfill many other requirements such as much-needed experience. In contrast, young and uncapped players work as modeling clay for the captain and the management that can be molded as required.

The Chennai-based IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings is a 5-time winner of the cash-rich tournament and is led by the most successful Indian captain, MS Dhoni. Under his guidance, CSK has repeatedly proven their mantel, despite being considered a squad full of senior players and lacking youth power.

Having said that, in this season’s auction, CSK management has bought a “pride” of young lions to complete their family.

From Rizvi to Ravindra, check out the full squad and list of players bought at the auction by Chennai Super Kings.

Rachin Ravindra earns Maiden IPL Contract after brilliant performance in World Cup 2024

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured the services of the promising New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra at a remarkable bargain, acquiring him for INR 1.8 crores during the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai. The auction saw an intense bidding battle between CSK and Delhi Capitals (DC) for the left-arm all-rounder, whose base price was INR 50 lakh.

Rachin Ravindra’s emergence came to the forefront during the 2023 World Cup in India, marking a breakthrough period in his international cricket career. Recognized as one of the emerging talents at the prestigious tournament, Rachin showcased his exceptional batting skills by notching up a maiden World Cup century in his debut match against England in the opening match.

Sameer Rizvi amongst the uncapped players bought by CSK

Chennai Super Kings made a significant addition to their squad by securing Uttar Pradesh batter Sameer Rizvi for a noteworthy sum of Rs 8.4 crore during the auction. Despite having a modest base price of Rs 20 lakh, Rizvi found himself at the center of a bidding war, initially between CSK and Gujarat Titans, later joined by Delhi Capitals. Gujarat Titans eventually withdrew at 7.6 crore, paving the way for CSK to secure the talented batter.

Sameer Rizvi gained prominence following his remarkable performance in the recent UP T20 League, where he accumulated 455 runs in nine innings for the Kanpur Superstars, including two centuries.

The 20-year-old showcased his prowess as a powerful hitter in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy earlier in the season, smashing 18 sixes at a remarkable frequency, hitting one every 11 balls faced.

With an impressive record in T20 cricket, Rizvi has played 11 matches, amassing 295 runs at an average of 49.16. Additionally, he demonstrated his skills in the Men’s Under-23 State A tournament, contributing two fifties and two centuries, including a crucial 50-ball 84 in the final that played a pivotal role in Uttar Pradesh’s victory. Notably, Rizvi topped the charts for the most sixes in the tournament, hitting an impressive total of 37. His multi-faceted batting abilities make him a promising addition to the Chennai Super Kings lineup.

Lord Shardul, Daryl Mitchell ready to don the yellow jersey

Shardul Thakur has rejoined the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as the five-time champions successfully navigated bidding wars to secure the India all-rounder.

Having been released by the Kolkata Knight Riders after being traded for Rs 10.5 crore from Delhi Capitals, Shardul Thakur experienced a significant decrease in pay at the IPL auction. Nevertheless, the all-rounder is expected to be delighted to return to the CSK squad 2018 and play under the leadership of MS Dhoni.

Interestingly, in the IPL 2024 mock auction held on Monday, former CSK vice-captain Suresh Raina accurately predicted Shardul’s homecoming, emphasizing the all-rounder’s exceptional performances under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.

Shardul Thakur had a productive stint with Delhi Capitals, picking up 15 wickets in 14 matches, although conceding at a rate close to 10 runs per over. However, in the 2023 season, while playing for KKR, Shardul managed only 7 wickets in 11 matches and conceded at an average of 10.48 runs per over.

On the other hand, Kiwi batting all-rounder Daryl Mitchell became the third millionaire in the auction after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took him for ₹14 crores.

In the 16th season of the IPL, the Kiwi opener did not take part in the tournament. His last season was in 2022 with Rajasthan Royals (RR).

He played only two matches in the extravagant T20 tournament and scored 33 runs. However, in the upcoming season, he will don the yellow jersey.
