Following his match-winning performances at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Sanju Samson has been named the ICC Player of the Month for March 2026.
The CSK opener did not feature in the early stages of the tournament. However, he was brought into the XI during the final Super 8 game and went on to play a decisive role in the knockout stages, helping India lift the trophy.
Samson named Player of the Month
Reacting to the award, Samson said: “Winning the ICC Player of the Month award is an incredible feeling, especially as it comes during what has been the most unforgettable phase of my cricketing journey. Playing a part in India’s triumph at the Men’s T20 World Cup was truly a dream realised, and it took some time for the magnitude of that moment to fully sink in.”
Despite playing just five matches, Samson finished with 321 runs, making him one of the leading run-scorers of the tournament. His unbeaten 97 against West Indies in the Super 8 stage turned India’s campaign around.
He followed it up with 89 in the semifinal against England, and another 89 in the final against New Zealand, delivering in the biggest moments. Across the knockout stages alone, Samson scored 275 runs, underlining his impact when it mattered the most.
Samson carries form into CSK campaign
Samson has carried that form into the IPL as well. After struggling in his first three matches, he bounced back in style at Chepauk with a stunning century against Delhi Capitals. His knock of 113 off 56 balls powered CSK to 213, which they successfully defended to register their first win of the season.
Interestingly, this was Samson’s fourth IPL century, and he became the first player to score the first hundred in four different IPL seasons. With form and confidence on his side, CSK will hope Samson continues to deliver as they look to turn their season around.
