Chennai Super Kings have registered their second win of the season, successfully defending a total of 192 at home against Kolkata Knight Riders to move further away from the bottom of the table.
This was a crucial win for the five-time champions in the context of their season. After defeating Delhi Capitals in their previous game, CSK needed to build momentum. Facing KKR at Chepauk, they did exactly that, sealing a convincing 32-run victory.
Hosein and Noor Ahmed spin CSK to victory
While it was a complete team effort, the biggest impact came from the spin duo of Akeal Hosein and Noor Ahmad. Their control in the middle overs not only slowed the game down but also brought crucial wickets.
Hosein set the tone early. Bowling the final over of the powerplay, he conceded just five runs, ensuring CSK maintained control. He returned in the 10th over to dismiss the in-form Angkrish Raghuvanshi, a breakthrough that shifted momentum.
Noor Ahmad then took over. After conceding 10 runs in his first over, he adjusted his pace and lengths effectively. He removed captain Ajinkya Rahane and Cameron Green in the same over, turning the game decisively.
His third over was even more impactful, where he dismissed Rinku Singh while conceding just one run. That spell in the 13th over effectively broke KKR’s chase. Noor finished with 3 for 21 in 4 overs and was rightly named Player of the Match.
The job was then completed by Khaleel Ahmed, Jamie Overton, and Anshul Kamboj, who ensured there were no late surprises.
Sanju and Ayush provide explosive start
CSK once again got off to a strong start at Chepauk, led by Sanju Samson. He began aggressively, scoring 13 runs in the opening over against Vaibhav Arora to set the tone.
Although they lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early, the momentum did not dip. Ayush Mhatre continued his fine form, taking the attack to the bowlers. Together, Samson and Mhatre added 47 runs off just 22 balls for the second wicket.
Mhatre played a quickfire knock of 38 off 17 balls, while Samson continued to dominate before falling just two runs short of a fifty.
At the back end, Dewald Brevis, Sarfaraz Khan, and Shivam Dube chipped in with useful contributions to take CSK to a competitive 193.
With this win, CSK move up to eighth on the table. Their next challenge will be an away clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, where they will look to carry forward this momentum.
