Ruturaj Gaikwad takes a wicket in the opening encounter of the Buchi Babu tournament, while representing Maharashtra in the game against Chhattisgarh.
Every CSK fan is aware of how good the player is with the ball in hand. On occasions, we have also seen him keep the wicket for his domestic side in the white ball formats. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad’s bowling and picking wickets were not something that we had expected to see anytime soon.

The event took place on Monday, when Gaikwad was bowling against the 11th numbered batter of the opposition, namely Sourabh Majumdar. Delivering a simple off-spinner, the CSK captain looped the ball for the tailender to have a swipe at.
Sourabh took the bait and went for the big shot, only for the ball to balloon in the air and the direction of Gaikwad. The skipper made no mistake in grabbing one of the simplest catches.
Gaikwad finished the inning with the figures of 1 wicket from 3 balls, in which he also conceded 7 runs. A ball before the dismissal, he ws smashed down the ground for a maximum by the same batter. So, it is safe to say that Ruturaj had a great comeback.
Ruturaj Gaikwas bowling stats
Sadly, this wicket will not count in his domestic tally as Buchi Babu is an invitational pre-season tournament. Hence, the runs scored here or the wickets taken are not officially counted in the first-class tally of the players.
Overall, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the bowler, has bowled around 28 overs in domestic cricket and is yet to claim a scalp. This wicket will certainly motivate him to bowl further, if his team requires the same in the upcoming domestic tournaments.
In all, Maharashtra had a great outing against Chhattisgarh in the first game of the invitational tournament. Their bowlers, Vicky Ostwal and Hitesh Walunj, fired when they needed them to land timely blows.
Sanjeev Desai, with his 93, and Avnish Dhaliwai, with his 52, put together an 84-run partnership for the third wicket, but apart from that, there was not much resistance from the batters as the side was bundled for a score of 252 runs. They played 89.3 overs to get to the total.
Tomorrow, Ruturaj Gaikwad will once again be in action as he will open the batting for his side beside Prithvi Shaw. Both batters will be looking to get some runs under their belt before heading into the Duleep Trophy, where they will be representing the West Zone.
