Shardul Thakur Undergoes Successful Foot Surgery, Set to Miss 3 Months of Cricket

India all-rounder Shardul Thakur underwent a successful foot surgery on Wednesday in London. Consequently, Thakur is expected to be out of competitive cricket for at least three months. The 32-year-old cricketer shared a post-surgery photo on his Instagram page with the caption: “Operated successfully.”

This is Thakur’s second foot surgery, the first being five years ago in 2019. The injury resurfaced during the South Africa tour earlier this year. Despite this setback, Thakur made a commendable return in the Ranji Trophy last season, playing a crucial role in Mumbai’s 42nd title win. To ensure proper recovery and preparation time, Thakur had requested the BCCI for longer breaks between matches.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season, Thakur represented Chennai Super Kings, taking five wickets in nine matches with an economy rate of 9.75. As a Grade C annual contract holder of the BCCI, the board covered the expenses for his treatment.

Regarding his comeback, while there is no official statement, sources suggest that Thakur will need around three months to return to training. This timeline indicates that he could be back in action before or just in time for the upcoming domestic season.

T20 World Cup 2024: Shardul Thakur CSK Partner Shivam Dube Plays a Significant Innings against USA

Shivam Dube and Surya Kumar Yadav’s sensible innings help India secure their third win in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 against co-host USA. Chasing a meager target of 111 India lost early wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, while Rishabh Pant chipped in a bit, Dube and Yadav stood up for the team and secured the team.

Dube finished with 31 off 35 balls, though the scorecard doesn’t reflect his struggle against USA’s cutters. Initially scoring just 5 off 14 balls, he broke the pressure with a crucial six off Corey Anderson in the 15th over, reducing India’s requirement to 44 from 35 balls. Known for his spin-hitting prowess in the IPL with Chennai Super Kings, which earned him a World Cup spot, Dube is also expected to contribute with the ball. On Wednesday, however, his single over went for 11 runs.
