The revolution of franchise cricket is here, and the Super Kings franchise is spreading its wings in different parts of the world. Earlier, the Chennai-based franchise had bought a team in the SA 20 tournament, which is played in South Africa.
Now they have managed to get their hands on a franchise that is based in the USA. Yes, Super Kings now have a team in the upcoming Major League Cricket, and it will be captained by none than the fan-favorite Faf du Plessis of South Africa.
Faf du Plessis named captain of Texas Super Kings
Faf du Plessis has been an integral part of the Super Kings franchise. He spent the best part of his IPL career with Chennai Super Kings before moving on to RCB, during which time he worked closely with Chennai Super Kings’ official partners.
But his bond with the franchise was never weakened. And the same was on display when he was seen in yellow colors during the SA 20 League. And now he will be donning the colors once again for the Texas-based Super Kings team.
The news of Faf’s appointment was shared on social media by Texas Super Kings. They shared a video of Faf reacting to fans asking for him to be named the Texas captain.
Faf du Plessis to find some familiar CSK faces in camp
Du Plessis, however, will not be alone in his endeavors with the new team. Some more familiar faces and teammates will join him. According to a report, the Texas Super Kings will feature some key players in the likes of Devon Conway, Mitchell Santner, Ambati Rayudu, and even David Miller.
Barring Conway, Faf has most probably played with all of the other players on the same team. Santner and Rayudu were a part of CSK’s 2018 title triumph. While David Miller has been a compatriot of du Plessis on his national side.
Apart from players, du Plessis will also be joined by the likes of CSK’s coaching staff which includes Dwayne Bravo and Stephen Fleming as bowling and head coaches, respectively.
Every tea featuring in the Major League Cricket is allowed to have 19 players in the squad. Out of which, 9 players can be internationals, while the remaining have to be domestic players.
Even in a squad, only 6 international players are allowed per side. Hence, it will be interesting to see what combination will Texas Super Kings adopt in the inaugural competition. And will they be able to replicate their success from SA 20?
SA 20 triumph for Super Kings
CSK-owned Joburg Super Kings had the best outing in the inaugural edition of SA20. They were able to reach the final, and despite a loss against Sunrisers Eastern Cape, they were the team to beat in that tournament.
Faf du Plessis led the team from the front with his batting as well as captaincy. He set an example for others to follow in the team. Therefore, the fans will be expecting him to repeat the feat in the upcoming MLC tournament in the USA.
